Here are the updates you need to know — ranging from girls and boys basketball, to wrestling, to the North-South All-Start game this past weekend.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
South Pointe edges Rock Hill
The South Pointe Stallions came from behind in the fourth period and edged the Rock Hill Bearcats 46-43 in a non-region battle at South Pointe last Friday night.
Rock Hill led 7-5 after one period and took a 14-9 lead to the dressing room at halftime. When the third quarter was in the books, the Bearcats were in front 29-20. The Stallions charged back in the final eight minutes and outscored Rock Hill 26-14 to earn the come-from-behind victory.
Randi Neal led South Pointe with 22 points. Trinity Adams joined her in double figures with 16.
Gracie Wilson led Rock Hill with 20 points. Unique Burch added 8 for the ‘Cats.
Spartanburg routs Northwestern
Spartanburg routed the Northwestern Trojans 44-12 in a non-region game at Spartanburg last Friday night.
Spartanburg led 13-5 after one quarter and upped the count to 25-8 at halftime. They were in front 41-10 after three quarters.
Northwestern is 1-5 on the year.
Catawba Ridge edges Fort Mill
The Catawba Ridge Copperheads edged the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets 29-27 in overtime in a non-region game at Catawba Ridge last Friday night.
Victoria Jordan scored the game-winning basket with 3.5 seconds remaining in the overtime session. She also led the Copperheads with 11 points.
Catawba Ridge is 7-2, while Fort Mill is 3-4.
McBee tops Lewisville
McBee established a 37-16 lead at halftime and defeated the Lewisville Lions 58-29 in a non-region game at Lewisville last Friday night.
McBee outscored Lewisville 21-13 in the second half to complete the victory.
Tyneshia Hickman led McBee with 26 points. Allie Keels led Lewisville with eight points and nine rebounds. Emerson Dickman added six points and pulled down four rebounds.
The Lions are 1-5 overall on the year.
Providence Day rips York Prep
Providence Day ripped the York Prep Patriots 62-18 in a non-region game at Providence Day last Friday night.
Providence Day led 11-4 after one period. They turned it up in the second quarter and took a 42-13 lead at halftime. They coasted from there for the victory.
Clover routs Kings Mountain
The Clover Blue Eagles routed Kings Mountain 77-20 in a non-region game at Clover Monday night.
The Blue Eagles improved to 8-1 on the year with the one-sided victory.
York Prep topples Lake Point
The York Prep Patriots defeated Lake Point 39-29 in a non-region game at York Prep Monday night.
The Patriots took a 13-7 lead after one period, and they were in front 20-13 at halftime. They outscored Lake Point 19-16 in the second half to pull away for the win.
York Prep is 2-4 on the year.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Fort Mill defeats Catawba Ridge
The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets defeated the Catawba Ridge Copperheads 58-36 in a non-region game at Catawba Ridge last Friday night.
The Jackets led 14-12 after one period and 30-25 at halftime. They outscored Catawba Ridge 14-2 in the third period to take a 44-27 lead, and they moved on from there in the final eight minutes for the victory.
Jackson Fewster led Fort Mill with 15 points. Keyan Mims joined him in double figures with 12.
Catawba Ridge was led by Luke Krawczyk with 11. Carter Hendrick chipped in 10 for the Copperheads.
Fort Mill is 5-3 on the season, while Catawba Ridge falls to 3-4.
Spartanburg defeats Northwestern
Spartanburg took a 33-13 lead at halftime and stood off a Northwestern rally in the second half to defeat the Trojans 58-52 in a non-region game at Spartanburg last Friday night.
The Trojans fought back in the third period and trimmed the deficit to 41-37 when it was complete.
The Trojans took the lead with four minutes left in the game, but the Vikings regained the advantage and held on down the stretch for the hard-earned victory.
A. J. Thompson led the Trojans with 18 points Mason Grigg joined him in double digits with 17.
South Pointe defeats Rock Hill
The South Pointe Stallions topped the Rock Hill Bearcats 59-44 in a non-region contest at South Pointe last Friday night.
The Stallions jumped to a 16-0 lead enroute to a 23-10 advantage after one period. They were in front 35-20 at halftime. They cruised from there for the victory.
Lewisville topples McBee
The Lewisville Lions defeated McBee 54-36 in a non-region game at Lewisville last Friday night.
The Lions are 3-2 on the year.
Providence Day defeats York Prep
Providence Day topped the York Prep Patriots 50-44 in a non-region game at Providence Day last Friday night.
The Patriots are 4-2 on the year.
Clover tops Kings Mountain
The Clover Blue Eagles defeated Kings Mountain 76-62 in a non-region contest at Clover Monday night.
Markus Nastase led the way with 33 points. Donavan Fitzgerald added 14, while Noah Caulder and Vince Popejoy chipped in 11 each.
Clover is 3-2 on the year.
Indian Land edges York
The Indian Land Warriors came from behind and edged the York Cougars 64-60 in a non-region game at York Monday night.
The Cougars built a double digit lead in the first half, but the Warriors regrouped and battled back to pick up the victory.
Indian Land is 4-3, while York is 3-3.
WRESTLING
Rock Hill wins four
The Rock Hill Bearcats won four matches at the Red Devil Duals at Newton-Conover over the weekend.
The ‘Cats beat Avery County (NC) 44-33, Newton-Conover (NC) 34-33, Science Hill (TN) 39-36, and Davie County (NC) 53-25.
North-South All-Star game
This past weekend, eight area standouts played in the Touchstone Energy North-South All-Star game: Anthony Jackson (Rock Hill); Kyson Chisholm (South Pointe); Hayden Johnson (Clover); JQ Guinn (Clover); Ly’Terrence Mills (Chester); AJ Jefferson (Indian Land); Ashton Shannon (York); Immanuel Bush (Lancaster).
Chester head coach Victor Floyd was one of the coaches on the North team.
The South won, 35-13, despite leading for most of the game.
