Rock Hill High School wrestler Bailey Wilkins surpasses school wins record

Before the season, Rock Hill High School wrestling head coach Cain Beard said Bailey Wilkins could do what’s never been done in South Carolina high school wrestling history in his senior season.

He’s off to a good start.

In the Battery Creek Duals on Saturday, Wilkins won his 236th match as a Bearcat wrestler, becoming the all-time wins leader in the storied program. He passed Weston Beck, who graduated from Rock Hill in 2011.

“Records are meant to be broken...” he tweeted on Saturday. “Excited to finish the season strong.”

Wilkins has won three 5A individual state championships in South Carolina and has a chance to be the only wrestler to ever win four. He has enough matches ahead of him this season to become the winningest wrestler in the state’s history. He currently sits at third all-time in individual career wins, per scmat.com.

He’s also on pace to break the single-season individual wins record — he’s already in third place in this category, after his 71-win 2018 season.
