High school volleyball playoffs: These Rock Hill-area teams staying alive

The first round of the volleyball playoffs is in the books, and eight area teams are still in the hunt for a state title.

Here’s what you need to know.

5A teams

The Nation Ford Falcons moved to the second round with a 25-17, 25-7, and 25-10 win over Spring Valley. The Falcons improved to 22-10 on the year. They will be at home on Monday to face JL Mann.

The Clover Blue Eagles advanced with a 25-17, 25-20, and 25-7 victory over the Northwestern Trojans. Clover improved to 12-5 on the year with the win. They will be on the road at Mauldin on Monday. Northwestern ended its year with a record of 6-11.

The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets moved on with a 25-23, 16-25, 23-25, 25-21, and 15-8 decision over the Rock Hill Bearcats. Fort Mill improved to 18-7 on the year and will play at Dorman on Monday. Rock Hill ended its season with a mark of 21-10.

The Catawba Ridge Copperheads advanced to the second round with an opening round bye. They will take a record of 21-8 into their second round match at home against Irmo on Tuesday.

The South Pointe Stallions moved to the next round with a five set win over Laurens. The Stallions lost the first set 25-20, but won the next two by scores of 25-23 and 25-12. Laurens won the fourth set 25-11, before South Pointe won the deciding set 15-8. The Stallions will put their 8-6 record on the line when they travel to Pickens for the second round.

The Indian Land Warriors lost to Eastside. The Warriors won the opening set 29-27, but Eastside came back to win the next three by scores of 28-26, 25-20, and 25-18. The loss ended their season with a mark of 7-9.

3A

The Chester Cyclones were on the road where they lost to Wren by scores of 25-12, 25-2, and 25-6. They ended their season with a record of 4-11.

2A

The Andrew Jackson Volunteers toppled Abbeville by scores of 25-8, 25-11, and 25-14 to improve to 14-6 on the year. That moves them to the next round where they will host Chesnee on Tuesday. It will be a rematch of last year’s state title contest, which was won by Chesnee.

The York Prep Patriots went on the road in the opening round and scored an impressive win over Andrews. They won by scores of 25-7, 25-7, and 25-8, They improved to 8-11 with the win and will travel to St. George to play Woodland on Tuesday in the second round.

The Lewisville Lions advanced with a first round bye. They will take their 13-2 record to the second round at home on Monday against High Point Academy.

The Great Falls Red Devils lost to Dixie by scores of 25-9, 25-12, and 25-11. The loss ended their season with a record of 4-10.
