Tennis season in York, Chester, Lancaster is over. How local schools fared at states

The first three rounds of the 2021 girls’ tennis playoffs are complete, and all of the eight area teams who began play last week have been eliminated.

The Catawba Ridge Copperheads, who won the Region 3-4A crown, were the last to fall. After receiving a first round bye they toppled Irmo by a score of 5-1. They were eliminated in the third round when they dropped a 6-0 decision to AC Flora.

The Copperheads, who went through the region season undefeated, finished with an overall mark of 14-4. They received outstanding play from every member of their team for the entire season.

Sara Taylor was the No. 1 singles player, while Claire Hivner played in the No. 2 singles spot. Alyana Uter performed in the No. 3 singles position, and Sara Maleady played the No. 4 singles. The No. 5 singles was filled by Lilly L’esperance, and Mallory McCart, Lucy Drew, and Katherine Koehl rotated on the No. 2 doubles team during the year.

Two other Region 3-4A area teams were also in the postseason. The Indian Land Warriors, who finished second, lost to Eastside by a score of 4-2 in the first round. The Lancaster Bruins, who were third, dropped a 7-0 decision to Laurens.

In 5A five local teams made the postseason. The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets, who won the Region 3-5A crown, defeated the Rock Hill Bearcats, who were fourth in Region 4-5A, by a score of 5-1. The Yellow Jackets were eliminated in the second when they lost a 4-2 decision to Spartanburg.

The Yellow Jackets had an exceptional season. They finished with an overall mark of 15-1 after marching through the region with a perfect 8-0 mark.

They were led by No. 1 singles player Ana Pallath and No. 2 singles player Aashi Pallath. They also got good play from Madison McCarty (No. 3 singles), Katie Pierson (No. 4 singles), and Rachel Thompson (No. 5 singles). The No. 2 doubles team, which got contributions from Kate Hill, Clara Lake, and Rachel Templeton, also performed well during the campaign.

The Northwestern Trojans, who were third in Region 4-5A, went on the road in the opening round and toppled Boiling Springs 4-3. The Trojans traveled to Mauldin in the second round and were defeated 5-1.

The Clover Blue Eagles, who finished third in Region 3-5A, saw their season end with a 5-1 loss at Spring Valley in the opening round. The Nation Ford Falcons, who finished fourth in Region 4-5A, also had their season end with a 5-1 first round road loss to Blythewood.
