Golf state championships: Catawba Ridge finishes 3rd, plus other York County results

The Catawba Ridge Copperheads capped a very good season with a third place finish in 4A girls golf state championships earlier this week at Crescent Pointe in Bluffton.

The Copperheads carded a two day total of 688, which was five strokes behind second place Hilton Head. Playing on their home course, May River won the title with a 36-hole score of 639.

Catawba Ridge turned in a team total of 348 on the first day of play. That put them in fourth place. They shot a team total of 340 on the second 18-hole round and moved up one spot in the standings.

The Copperheads were led by Katherine Mann, who had a two-day total of 158. She finished 10th in the individual competition and was named to the All-State team. Mann had a 77 in the opening round and followed with an 81 in the second round.

Eileen Zeoli was 14th overall with a two day card of 163. She had an 84 on the first day and a 79 in the second round. Kate Gilmer finished 17th with a 36-hole score of 166. She turned in an 86 in the opening round and followed with an 80 on the second day. Reagan Lynch completed the Copperheads’ scoring with a tournament score of 201. She had a 101 in the opening round and a 100 on the second 18 holes.

No area teams qualified for the 5A tournament which was played at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence.

Two area golfers made the cut for that event with their play in the Upper State tournament last week, and earned a spot in the 36-hole tournament.

Vivian Harris of Nation Ford finished the event with two day total of 161. She had an 82 in the first round and followed with a 79 on the second day. She finished tied for 22nd in the event.

Mallory Dover of Clover finished tied for 42nd in the tournament. She had an 87 on the first 18 holes and added a 92 on the second day for a two day card of 179.
