Rock Hill High School offering its youth wrestling program. Here’s how to sign up
The Rock Hill Bearcats’ wrestling program is once again offering its Wrestling Club for youth from kindergarten through sixth grade, and it has already started.
Rock Hill head wrestling coach Cain Beard said that the initial sign-up period has ended, but he added that anyone can still sign up by coming to a practice session to get started.
The practice sessions, which are already underway, are being held in the Rock Hill High School Old Gym on Tuesday and Thursday. Each practice session runs from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Those who would like to participate in the program can also call Beard at (803)-981-1300 or email him at tbeard at rhmail.org.
Beard feels that the program has been successful in the past, and it brings a greater awareness to wrestling in the area. (Beard has done a lot to grow the sport of wrestling in York County. Among the most impactful things he’s done: He started the Rock Hill High girls’ wrestling program two years ago.)
“We have had a good number of participants in the past, and I look for the same this year,” he said. “There are quite a few that are still involved in youth football. They can join us when that season is completed. All they have to do is show up at a practice session and sign up.”
He added that there is no limit to the number of participants they can take in the program, which is free. He also said that the program is open only to those in Rock Hill High School District 4.
“We are offering this as a way to encourage more youth to participate in as many sports as possible,” he said. “This program has gotten bigger each year we have offered it.”
