Here are Rock Hill-area region cross country championship results. State qualifiers soon
The region cross country championships have been completed, and the area teams are now making their preparation for the state qualifying event later this week.
Here’s what you need to know.
5A cross country updates
In Region 3-5A, the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets dominated both the girls and boys events.
The Jackets won the boys competition with a score of 20 points. The Nation Ford Falcons were second with 53 points. Boiling Springs (86), and Clover (90) completed the field.
All five Fort Mill runners finished in the top 10. Devon Sibley led the way with a first place finish in a time of 16:15. Evan Wrey was third (16:40), and Evan Ickert was fourth (16:48). Jackson Dawson finished fifth (16:52), while Tanner Long came home seventh (17:05).
Nation Ford was led by Mason Haynes, who was second in a time of 16:39. Alexander Bentley finished 10th (17:21).
Fort Mill won the girls event with a score of 17 points. Clover was second with 62. Nation Ford (65) and Boiling Springs (107) rounded out the field.
The Jackets placed all of their runners in the top six. Avery Moriarity won the individual competition in a time of 19:58. Angel Kravitz was second (20:16), while Kelsey McGuire was third (20:30). Brinley Ellis finished fifth (21:16), and Mia Zook was sixth (21:19).
Nation Ford was paced by Adria Kahre, who finished eighth in a time of 21:48. Megan O’Flynn was 12th (22:07).
In Region 4-5A Spring Valley was the top boys team with 31 points, Blythewood was second with 53 points. The Northwestern Trojans (77), Ridge View (83), and the Rock Hill Bearcats (108) completed the field.
Northwestern was led by Christian Notarangelo, who was fifth in a time of 17:41. Timothy Notarangelo finished sixth (17:48). Rock Hill’s top runner was Logan Rangnow, who was 11th in a time of 18:10.
Northwestern claimed the girls title with a score of 46 points. Blythewood was second with 47 points. Spring Valley (50), Rock Hill (84), and Ridge View (154) rounded out the competition.
Brittany Mobley-Meulman of Rock Hill won the individual competition with a time of 20:03. Northwestern had three runners finish in the top 10. Aamori Gaines was third (20:44), Addison Meeker finished fourth (20:47), while Madeline Smith was seventh (21:10). Rock Hill’s Averi York also turned in a top 10 finish. She was ninth in a time of 21:51.
4A: Catawba Ridge dominates
In Region 3-4A, which took place at Fort Mill, the Catawba Ridge Copperheads turned in dominating performances in winning both races.
In the boys event they placed all five runners in the top 10 and scored 22 points. The York Cougars were second with 53 points. The Indian Land Warriors (93), the South Pointe Stallions (108), the Lancaster Bruins (111) completed the field.
Sam Rich of Catawba Ridge won the individual competition with a time of 15:39.5, Emmanuel Paddyfote of York was second (16:38.9), and Joshua Silverman of Catawba Ridge was third (16:42.8). Lancaster’s Matthew Prete was fourth (17:10.8), while the Copperheads’ Ty Massey finished fifth (17:31.7).
Catawba Ridge had the next three finishers. Spencer Predmore was sixth (17:39.7), Jackson Rozelle was seventh (18:00.0), and Matthew Lopresti was eighth (18:01.9). York’s Anthony Degraw was ninth (18:24.0), and Garrett Brown of South Pointe completed the top ten (18:26.9).
Indian Land’s top performer was Ben Carroll, who was 14th in a time of 19:07.6.
In the girls event Catawba Ridge placed all of its runners in the top ten and scored 23 points. South Pointe was second with 57 points. York (58), Indian Land (88) and Lancaster (146) completed the field.
Maddy Mack led the Copperheads with a first place finish in a time of 20:31.7. Teammate Hayla Banish was second (21:15.8), with the Copperheads Alexandra Cardozo third (21:19.0). Chloe Mumaw of York was fourth (21:25.0), and Libba Faircloth of South Pointe was fifth (21:47.1).
The Stallions’ Ellie Watson was sixth (22:02.7) and Peyton Pierson of Catawba Ridge was seventh (22:04.4). Ava Shook of York was eighth (22;09.2), and South Pointe’s Katie Stevenson came home ninth (22:10.0). Talia Gluff of Catawba Ridge completed the top 10 with a time of 22:41.4.
Indian Land’s top runner was Isabella Kiger, who finished 12th in a time of 22:58.4. Lancaster was led by Destinee Goshorn, who was 24th in a time of 24:28.1.
3A, 2A, 1A
The Region 4-3A event was held in Winnsboro, and Fairfield Central won the boys race. The Chester Cyclones finished fifth. They were led by Timothy Ellenburg (17th place - 22:04.47) and Trenton Bowser (23rd place - 24:28.41).
Mid-Carolina won the girls event in that region, while Chester came home fourth.
Elaine Wightman paced the Cyclones with a 16th place finish in a time of 28:48. Keyanna Wilmore turned in a time of 30:52.62 and was 19th.
In Region 2-1A The Governor’s School won both the boys and girls event, which was held at McBee.
In the boys competition the Lewisville Lions were a distant second with the Great Falls Red Devils third. McBee, Riverwalk Academy, and Midlands STEM completed the field.
Luis Rosa led Lewisville with a seventh place finish (20:51.52). Teammate Daniel Claiborne was close behind in ninth place (21:12.42). Jackson Kennington led the Red Devils with an 11th place finish (21:36.09), and Jarod Lockhart was 12th (21:48.75).
In the girls event McBee was second, but neither Great Falls or Lewisville had enough runners to qualify for a team score. The Red Devils’ top runner was Lilly Kennington, who was second overall in a time of 25:32.11. Her teammate Madison Guilotte was 10th (30:59.11). Lewisville’s top finisher was Kaylee Minerd, who was 20th in a time of 43:32.00.
