Trent Bowser of the Chester wrestling team is The Herald’s Athlete of the Week.

The Cyclone senior went a perfect 6-0 at 126 pounds this past week. Bowser — who now has over 100 career victories — was named the Region 4-3A Lower Weight Wrestler of the Year.

Chester won the Region 4-3A regular season title with a perfect mark of 4-0. The Cyclones will be at home for the first two rounds of the South Carolina state playoffs, which begin on Saturday. They will take on Seneca in the opening round. A win there would send them against the winner of the Emerald-Blue Ridge match, with the winner advancing to the third round.

There were 98,078 votes cast in this week’s poll. Bowser earned 48% of the vote; Nadia Dial of the Fort Mill girls’ basketball earned 40% of the vote; and Jayden Boyd of the Northwestern boys’ basketball team earned 6% of the vote.
