Meet The Herald’s Athletes of the Week here
Editor’s note: A previous version of this article had its results affected based on a technological issue that we are continuing to investigate. We’ve therefore decided to declare several winners from this week’s voting.
Natalie Michelow of Fort Mill lacrosse, Layla Clayton of York softball, Connor Rasmussen of Fort Mill baseball and Sadie Commerford of Catawba Ridge soccer are The Herald’s Athletes of the Week.

Finalists for The Herald’s Athlete of the Week
Taylor Ames-Alexander, Lancaster softball. The Bruin senior and second baseman hit a home run to lead Lancaster to an 11-3 win over Central Pageland on Feb. 28. Ames-Alexander, a South Carolina State commit, has helped Lancaster to a 2-1 record this season.
Layla Clayton, York softball. The Cougars’ freshman pitcher struck out 13 batters to help York to a 4-1 win over East Rutherford, March 3. York is 1-0 this season.
Owen Collette, Nation Ford lacrosse. The Falcon junior goalkeeper had 12 saves — while allowing only four goals — in a 14-4 win at Charlotte Latin on March 1. Collette also had 13 saves in a 15-3 win over Boiling Springs earlier this season. Collette has 47 saves and has stopped 71.2% of the shots on goal for Nation Ford (5-0).
Sadie Commerford, Catawba Ridge soccer. The Copperhead sophomore forward scored two goals to lead Catawba Ridge to a 3-2 comeback win at Sun Valley on March 4. She also scored the lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Marvin Ridge on March 1. Commerford has four goals and one assist for Catawba Ridge (3-2) this season.
John Fosu, Indian Land soccer. The Warrior senior forward scored four goals and had one assist to lead Indian Land to a 12-2 victory at Camden on March 1. Indian Land is 2-2 overall this season.
Justin Holland, Legion Collegiate lacrosse. The Lancer senior goalkeeper had 17 saves to give Legion Collegiate its first victory in program history with an 8-7 overtime win at St. Joseph’s Catholic on Feb. 28. He also had 12 saves in a 7-2 loss at Mountain Island Charter on March 1. Holland finished off the week with 11 saves in a 13-11 win at Camden Military Academy on March 3. Legion Collegiate 2-3 overall this season.
Natalie Michelow, Fort Mill lacrosse. The Fort Mill junior scored five goals and had six draw controls in a 15-8 win at Clover on March 3. She also scored five goals and had two draw controls in a 14-10 loss to Marvin Ridge on Feb. 28. Michelow is a Furman University commit. Fort Mill is 2-1 this season.
Connor Rasmussen, Fort Mill baseball. The Yellow Jacket senior tossed a no-hitter with nine strikeouts in five innings of work in an 8-0 win over St. James in the Coastal Invitational at Pawley’s Island on March 3. He also went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the same game. Rasmussen, an East Carolina signee, was named the event’s Most Valuable Player for his pitching and hitting prowess. Fort Mill is 4-0 this season.
MaKayla Street, Rock Hill basketball. The 5-foot-7 senior scored four points and had 10 rebounds (five defensive, five offensive), two steals, one assist and one block to help Rock Hill to a 52-44 win to claim the 5A state championship at USC Aiken on March 3. Street is a Brevard College signee and was tasked with guarding Summerville’s formidable frontcourt in the game. Street averaged 6.3 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game for a Rock Hill team (26-3) that won 21 straight games to end the season.
Jordan Williams, Clover golf. The Blue Eagle sophomore shot a two-under par (34) to win the Clover team qualifier at River Hills Country Club on March 2. Williams had three birdies and five pars in the round.
Harrison Wilson, Catawba Ridge baseball. The Copperhead senior went 9-for-12 with three doubles, two home runs and eight runs batted in as Catawba Ridge went 3-1 in the Comporium Classic tournament this week. Catawba Ridge beat South Pointe (10-4), defeated Lewisville (20-1) and shut out Lancaster (15-0) in the event. The Copperheads also lost to Andrew Jackson, 7-6. Wilson is a Winthrop University commit.
Tyler Wilson, Lewisville soccer. The Lion senior scored two goals and had two assists in a 7-1 win over Chester to pick up Lewisville’s first victory of the season on March 4. Lewisville is 1-2 on the year.

Athlete of the Week awards highlight high school players with outstanding performances. The goal is to recognize all athletes — both the accomplished and the underrated/underappreciated players. Please include the athlete’s name, school, class and applicable game performance statistics. Coaches must be willing to verify information. The Herald reserves the right to remove a name from the poll at its discretion.
