The Indian Land Warriors made the most of two hits and took advantage of four South Pointe errors and edged the Stallions 3-1 in a Region 3-4A battle at South Pointe Friday night.

The win completed a three-game sweep of the Stallions during the week and left the Warriors with an overall mark of 9-5 and a region record of 4-2.

Their play this week put them back in the region title picture.

“This team is very resilient,” said head coach Hal Bagwell after the game. “We were 1-2 in the region coming into this week, but our guys put it together and did a great job.”

The bats gave the Warriors big wins in the first two games in the three-game set, but they relied on “small ball” to win the third contest.

“We work on that part of our game every day,” he added. “We did a good job with it tonight.”

The teams traded runs in the first inning. The Warriors got their run in top of the frame when Austin Quinn drove in Reid Kazmierczak, who opened the game by reaching on an error. The Stallions answered in the bottom half. Cole Montgomery singled and proceeded to steal second, third, and home to tie the contest.

Indian Land threatened in the top of the fourth. Quinn walked to open the inning, and after one out, Carter Barrett also drew a walk. The rally died as the Stallions’ Redden Smith retired the next two batters on a strikeout and fly out.

Drew Enders opened the top of the fifth by reaching on a Stallions’ error, and Kazmierczak walked. Both moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Alex Blanchette. When Logan Sulli grounded into a fielder’s choice, Enders scored for a 2-1 Warriors’ lead.

With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Jasiah Torres doubled to right and moved to third on an infield groundout by Maximus Wearing. With two outs Dalton Bucy was hit by a pitch, and the Stallions had runners at the corners. Barrett got out of the jam with a strikeout.

With one out in the sixth, Barrett drew a walk and stole second. After Collin Otte walked, Josh McCall reached on an error. Otte was out at second on the play and Barrett advanced to third. He later scored on a passed ball to make it 3-1.

With one out in the home half of the seventh, Cohen Faile singled and was replaced by courtesy runner Ethan Wilson. The Warriors staved off the threat as Barrett recorded a strikeout and an infield pop out to end the game.

Barrett picked up the win for the Warriors. He pitched a complete game. He allowed only three hits, while striking out six and walking none.

“He was great tonight,” added Bagwell. “We got three complete games this week from our pitching staff.”

Redden Smith took the loss, but turned in a superb effort on the mound. He worked 5.2 innings and allowed only one hit and no earned runs. He struck out three and walked six.

South Pointe fell to 2-7 in region play and 4-9 in all games.
