Baseball and softball roundup: Clover beats Rock Hill to play for district championship
The Clover Blue Eagles stayed alive in the 5A District 3 playoffs with a 5-1 victory over the Rock Hill Bearcats Saturday afternoon in Clover.
The Blue Eagles, who were the No. 1 seed in District 3, lost to Rock Hill 2-1 in the opening round this past Tuesday. They rebounded with a 9-3 win over Spartanburg this past Thursday, while Rock Hill lost 11-7 to TL Hanna. Those two results set up Saturday’s contest.
The win against the Bearcats put Clover in the District 3 championship series at TL Hanna on Monday. The Blue Eagles must beat TL Hanna twice to earn the District title and move to the Upper State series.
In Saturday’s win, Rock Hill struck first in the top of the second when Kamari Moore blasted a solo home run. It stayed that way until the bottom of the fifth when Clover tied the count.
Sam Czyz led off the inning with a walk. He stole second and third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Walker Love.
Clover put the game away with a four-run outburst in the home half of the sixth. Ben Snavely opened the decisive frame with a single. Logan McAllister reached on an error and Snavely came around to score for a 2-1 Clover lead.
Cooper Zohner’s single plated McAllister, and Clover was up 3-1. After Hunter Busque walked, the Blue Eagles got their final two runs on a pair of Bearcat errors.
Rock Hill out hit Clover seven to four. Moore had two hits for the ‘Cats as did John Wimmer and Skylar Hooten.
River Joye worked five innings for Clover. He allowed six hits, one run, and struck out two, but left with the score tied at 1-1. Cade Pilgrim pitched the top of the sixth, allowed one hit, and was credited with the win. Dion Brown finished the game with a perfect seventh inning.
Cayden Towell took the loss for Rock Hill. He pitched five innings, allowed four hits and gave up four runs, but only two were earned.

Softball playoffs
Lewisville swings into District finals
The Lewisville Lions routed the Whitmire Wolverines 16-2 Saturday afternoon in Richburg to move to the 1A District 3 championship series on Wednesday.
The Lions pounded out 16 hits in the rout. They scored six times in the first, added two more in the second, and got four in the both the third and fourth innings.
Emerson Dickman led the hitting attack with three hits. Alyssa Rollins and Malaurie Martin both added two hits and drove in two runs. Saleena Rollins and Sarah Owens each had a pair of hits and knocked in one run. Sydney Rollins had one hit and one RBI.
Owens pitched a complete game and picked up the win. She allowed only three hits and struck out five.
