Two powers clash this week in prep football -- South Pointe vs. Mallard Creek
Thirteen high school games involving Rock Hill region schools are scheduled this week. All but one of the area teams will see action Friday night.
Here’s the rundown:
Mallard Creek (1-1) at South Pointe (2-0)
South Pointe is looking to stay unbeaten as it takes on a traditional power from the Charlotte region. South Pointe’s solid defense will need another strong effort to contain Mallard Creek’s explosive offense. South Pointe remains ranked No. 1 among Class 4A schools in South Carolina. Mallard Creek is ranked No. 9 in The Charlotte Observers Sweet 16 rankings.

Brookland-Cayce (1-1) at Northwestern (2-0)
Northwestern will be looking to stay on the winning side of the ledger after beating their second 5A opponent last week. Northwestern is ranked No. 2 among Class 4A schools in South Carolina. Brookland-Cayce is coming off a win.

Rock Hill (0-2) at Lancaster (1-1)
Rock Hill needs a win to get some confidence. Lancaster, which is much improved from a year ago, needs a win after last week’s close loss. Home field advantage could prove to be the difference.

Nation Ford (0-2) at Catawba Ridge (2-0)
Catawba Ridge can lock up the Fort Mill City championship with a win. Nation Ford needs a win to get their season turned around.

Clover (0-1) at Hillcrest (2-0)
Clover goes on the road after playing a very good game against Northwestern last week. They will need another solid effort against a very good Hillcrest team, which owns two one-sided wins to start the season.

Indian Land (2-0) at Palisades (1-1)
Indian Land has had two excellent showings. They must be at their best on both sides of the ball if they are to get to 3-0.
Chester (1-1) at Fairfield Central (2-0)
Chester will need to be at the top of their game against a very good Fairfield Central team. The key for Chester will be to stop the explosive Fairfield Central offense, which is averaging more than 50 points per game.

York (1-0) at Union County (1-0)
York goes on the road after opening with a solid win. Union had its game with Gaffney canceled. York scored last week on offense, defense, and with special teams. They will need a similar effort again this week.

Crestwood (1-1) at Andrew Jackson (0-1)
Andrew Jackson stumbled in the second half last week. Crestwood is riding high after a big win. Andrew Jackson needs to step up on both sides of the ball if they want to avoid an 0-2 start. The home field advantage should help.
Lee Central 1-0) at Buford (2-0)
Buford has already surpassed its win total from a year ago, and they have been impressive on both sides of the ball. That will have to continue. The home field advantage should come in handy.
Chesterfield (0-0) at Lewisville (2-0)
Lewisville is riding high after a solid win last week against a quality opponent. Playing at home again will be a huge advantage against a 2A Chesterfield team that will be stepping on the field for the first time this season.
Great Falls (0-2) at Scott’s Branch (1-1)
Great Falls showed a lot of improvement from their first week’s performance. They will need an all out effort if they want to avoid an 0-3 start. They will face a quality opponent after a long bus ride.
Legion Collegiate (1-1) at Lamar (1-1)
Legion Collegiate got back on the winning side last week. They will need to take that momentum with them as they play on the road against a traditional 1A power in Lamar, which has been tough at home for years.
