Rock Hill area high school football scoreboard for Friday, Oct. 14
A recap of local games from Friday night:
Nation Ford 41, Rock Hill 28
The Nation Ford Falcons took a 19-0 lead at halftime and defeated the Rock Hill Bearcats 41-28 in a Region 3-5A game at Nation Ford.
Both teams scored in the third period and it was 27-7 heading to the final quarter. Rock Hill outscored Nation Ford 21-14 in the final 12 minutes.
The Falcons improved to 1-2 in region play and 2-6 overall, while the Bearcats fell to 1-2 in the region and 2-6 in all games.
Spring Valley 28, Fort Mill 21
Spring Valley came from behind in the second half and edged the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets 28-21 in a Region 3-5A contest in Fort Mill Friday night.
Fort Mill broke a 7-7 tie after one quarter and took a 14-7 lead at halftime. Spring Valley scored midway through the third quarter to tie the contest.
After Spring Valley scored in the fourth quarter to take a 21-14 lead, the Jackets answered with a touchdown to tie it at 21-21. Spring Valley got the winning tally with just more than a minute to play.
Fort Mill dropped to 0-3 in the region and 0-8 overall on the year.
Blythewood 21, Clover 7
In a key matchup at the top of region 3 AAAAA, the Blythewood Bengals topped the Clover Blue Eagles 21-7 Friday night at Blythewood High School Stadium.
The Bengals improved to 6-2 (3-0) while taking sole possession of first place in the region, and the Blue Eagles dropped to 4-4 (2-1).
In an otherwise scoreless second half, the game’s critical sequence came late in the third quarter, with Blythewood leading 14-7. Clover had forced the third Blythewood turnover after senior linebacker Cooper Zohner picked off Harrison Collins and returned the ball inside the 35-yard line. On the ensuing drive, the Blue Eagles moved the ball inside the three-yard line but couldn’t come up with a 4th down conversion to tie the game.
Following the turnover-on-downs, Collins connected with wide receiver Deon Tyler for a 97-yard touchdown, their second touchdown connection of the night. The score would be the game’s final.
Clover scored its only points late in the second quarter after Cooper Zohner recovered the game’s second turnover for the Bengals. Elijah Farmer carried the ball down to the 11-yard line before Jaylon Hoover connected with Hunter Jaime.
Clover will return to action next week when they travel to Fort Mill.
Blythewood will drive to York County to play Rock Hill at District 3 Stadium. Both are region 3 AAAAA matchups.
South Pointe 19, Indian Land 7
The South Pointe Stallions came from behind in the second half and defeated the Indian Land Warriors 19-7 in a Region 3-4A game at South Pointe Friday night.
After a scoreless first quarter, Jaden Singletary gave Indian Land a 7-0 lead when he scooped up a Stallions’ fumble and rambled 53 yards for a score. That was the lead the Warriors held at halftime.
After Malachi Marshall’s touchdown pass tied the game early in the third quarter, the Stallions added a safety for a 9-7 advantage.
South Pointe added a 17-yard touchdown run by DJ Barksdale and a field goal by Jake Brookover to complete the scoring.
The Stallion improved to 2-1 in the region and 6-2 overall, while the Warriors fell to 1-2 in region action and 5-3 in all games.
Chester 33, Emerald 13
The Chester Cyclones defeated Emerald 33-13 in a Region 4-3A game in Greenwood Friday night.
After a scoreless first quarter, Chester took a 13-6 lead at halftime. When the third period was in the books, the Cyclones were in front 26-13. They completed the scoring with a touchdown in the final stanza.
The Cyclones improved to 3-0 in the region and 6-3 overall.
Andrew Jackson 31, Pageland Central 6
The Andrew Jackson Volunteers scored in every quarter and toppled Pageland Central 31-6 in a Region 5-2A game in Pageland Friday night.
Andrew Jackson led 7-0 after one quarter and 17-6 at intermission. They added another score in the third period for a 23-6 advantage and closed out the scoring with a touchdown in the final twelve minutes.
The Vols improved to 3-0 on the region and 6-2 overall as they won their sixth game in a row.
Buford 49, Chesterfield 42
The Buford Yellow Jackets edged Chesterfield 49-42 in a Region 5-2A game in Buford Friday night.
Buford broke a 14-14 tie after one quarter and took a 35-27 lead at halftime. Chesterfield got the only score in the third period, and it was knotted a 35-35 heading the final stanza. The Yellow Jackets scored for a 42-35 advantage, but Chesterfield rallied to tie the score at 42-42. Buford scored in the final minutes to earn the victory.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 2-1 in region play and 7-1 in all games.
Lewisville 56, Great Falls 6
The Lewisville Lions routed the Great Falls Red Devils 56-6 in a Region 3-1A game in Richburg Friday night.
Lewisville took a 21-6 lead after one quarter and never looked back. When halftime rolled around the Lions were in front 28-6.
Quarterback Ian Grissom led the first half charge. He passed for four touchdowns. Each scoring aerial went to a different receiver.
Grissom added his fifth scoring strike in the second half, and the Lions got their other three scores on running plays. Damion Fee scored the first one, Jaquintus Cousar tallied the second, and Zach Rogers scampered in for the third score.
The Lions improved to 2-0 in the region and 7-1 overall, while Great Falls dropped to 0-3 in region play and 2-7 in all games.
