Editor’s note: Today Herald sports reporter Michael Burgess II kicks of his Sunday column “The Best things I’ve Seen.” During the winter he’ll travel the region to key events, and readers can suggest what these events should be. Send your ideas to assignmentdesk@heraldonline.com. Now, hear from Michael.

Over the past three months, I’ve covered sports and other events for The Herald.

I’ve roamed York, Lancaster and Chester counties. I want to cover more events and see more of the area. That’s where you, the readers, come in.

Starting this week, I will accept recommendations for games and other events in the region that I should write about. I will attend at least two every week and write about them on Sunday in a weekly column -- “The Best Things I’ve Seen.” My first column will be Dec. 18.

I’ve had a lot of fun on my beat, I’ve met a lot of great people, and I’m excited for the opportunity to meet new people and have new experiences.

I realize I have yet to tell you much about me. It’s time to remedy that. And what better way to start off our beautiful new relationship than by playing 20 Questions. Actually, just 17 Questions, because 20 is a lot.

1. Who are you?

I’m Michael Burgess II.

2. Where are you from?

Charleston, South Carolina

3. Where did you go to school?

I completed my undergraduate degree in broadcast journalism at Howard University in May 2021. I finished my masters degree in sports journalism at Arizona State this past summer.

4. What are your hobbies?

I enjoy listening to music, playing video games, reading and watching sports.

5. When you’re not at work, where do you go?

I’m a homebody, so I usually just spend time at home. When I am out and about, I’m probably grocery shopping or looking for a new book.

6. What is your guilty pleasure?

Peanut butter chocolate and ice cream. My go-to order at Culver’s is a vanilla concrete mixer with Reese’s peanut butter cups and cookie dough. If that strikes your fancy, it’s delicious. I promise.

7. What’s your favorite color?

Red, but I respect a nice purple.

8. What are you afraid of?

Piranhas. Also, if I could avoid tornadoes for the rest of my life, I’d be happy.

9. Hot weather or cold weather?

Hot weather. If it’s below 70 degrees, I’m shivering.

10. Where’s your favorite place you’ve been?

Los Angeles was so cool. Santa Monica Beach lives up to the hype and then some. Next time I go, I’m definitely going to the pier.

11. What is your dream vacation?

Tokyo, Japan. From the fashion to the food to the cars, I’ve dreamed about a week-long vacation there since I saw “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift” as a kid. Venice is a close second.

12. What are some random facts about you?

I once co-piloted a plane and even took control for a few minutes. I love rollercoasters

13. What is your favorite restaurant?

Probably Olive Garden. I love pasta.

14. Are you a morning person or an evening person?

Definitely a night owl. It’s a lot easier for me to work through the night than to wake up in the morning.

15. What’s your favorite animal?

I’m a turtle guy. Something about always having a place you can retreat to whenever you want is admirable to me.

16. What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Strawberry.

17. If you won the lottery tomorrow, what’s the first thing you’re buying?

A plane ticket to Tokyo, Japan
