Rock Hill Herald Fall Sports’ Athletes of the Week Nominees
Ayona Alexander, Andrew Jackson Girls’ Basketball: The 5-foot-11 freshman averaged 18 points, 16 rebounds and five assists in three games this week as Andrew Jackson beat Great Falls and lost to Camden and South Pointe.
Andrew Jackson is 4-3 this season.
Ke’Mari Boyd, Rock Hill Basketball: The 5-foot-9 senior point guard had 10 points, seven assists and four steals in a 57-52 win over Elevation Prep, Dec. 5.
The next night, Boyd had 15 points, seven assists and four steals in a 66-48 victory at Spartanburg.
Boyd finished off the week with 15 points, seven assists and four steals in a 75-70 win over South Pointe.
Boyd is averaging 12 points, 5.4 assists, 4.8 steals and 3.8 rebounds per game for Rock Hill (4-1) this season.
Tydriez Coleman, Great Falls Basketball: The 6-foot-7 senior forward scored 21 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, four blocks and had three assists in a 51-46 win at Buford, Dec. 5.
Coleman also had 17 points, 12 rebounds, six blocks and three steals in a 48-46 win over Andrew Jackson, Dec. 9.
Great Falls (6-1) also won 73-35 over Chesterfield, Dec. 7.
De’Ashaj Crawford, Rock Hill Girls’ Basketball: The 5-foot-6 junior point guard scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds, three steals and had six assists in a 65-34 win at White Knoll, Dec. 7
Crawford also scored 20 points, had four assists, four rebounds and two steals in a 46-39 loss to South Pointe, Dec. 9.
Crawford is averaging 15.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 3.4 steals for Rock Hill (3-2) this season.
Corey Dye, Northwestern Wrestling: The Trojans’ junior went 5-0 at 120 pounds this week.
Dye won the 120-pound title with a pin in the finals at the Silver Fox Invitational at Dutch Fork High, where he was named the most outstanding wrestler, Dec. 10.
Zyan Hager, Catawba Ridge Basketball: The 6-foot-1 junior scored 29 points, including seven three pointers, the final of which was the game-winning shot at the buzzer to give Catawba Ridge a 49-46 win at rival, Fort Mill, Dec. 8.
Hager also had 15 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 55-54 loss to Nation Ford, Dec. 6.
Hager is averaging 21.8 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals for Catawba Ridge (5-1) this season.
Mike Jones, Indian Land Basketball: The 5-foot-9 freshman scored 19 points, had five rebounds, four assists and two steals in a 66-57 win over Marvin Ridge, Dec. 7.
Jones also scored 20 points, had six steals and four assists in a 74-53 victory at Parkwood, Dec. 9.
Jones is averaging 20.5 points, 2.8 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game for Indian Land (5-1) this season.
T.J. Miller, Fort Mill Wrestling: The Yellow Jackets’ senior won the 182-pound title at the South Slam Invitational at Eastside High, Dec. 3.
Miller is a perfect 11-0 overall this season.
Brooklyn Stanley, Catawba Ridge Wrestling: The Copperheads’ sophomore went 2-0 with two pins as she moved up from J.V. to varsity in the Nation Ford/Lewisville Duals, Dec. 6.
The next day, Stanley picked up two more wins, including a pin, against Chesterfield and Forest Hills.
Tamia Watkins, Legion Collegiate Girls’ Basketball: The 6-foot-1 sophomore scored 17 points and had 10 rebounds and two blocks in a 55-47 victory at Cuthbertson, Dec. 9.
The next day, Watkins poured in 24 points and had 11 rebounds and two more blocks in a 78-19 win over Piedmont Classical.
Watkins is averaging 16.1 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game for Legion Collegiate (7-1) this season.
