Rock Hill Herald Fall Sports’ Athletes of the Week Nominees

Ni’Yonna Asbelle, Andrew Jackson Basketball: The 5-foot-10 freshman scored 13 points to go with nine rebounds and two assists in a 44-38 win at Chesterfield, Dec. 16.

Asbelle also had 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists in a 72-44 loss at Camden, Dec. 13.

Asbelle is averaging 14.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists for Andrew Jackson (5-4) this season.

Zamari Copley, Legion College Basketball: The 6-foot-4 junior averaging 13 points and five rebounds in two games this week as Legion Collegiate split games with Asheville School (60-30 loss, Dec. 16) and York Prep (53-47 win, Dec. 13).

Legion Collegiate is 6-7 this season.

Eduardo De Paz, Chester Wrestling: The Cyclones’ sophomore won the 106-pound title, going 5-0, at Cougar Classic at York High, Dec. 17.

De Paz had five pins and used only 1:57 of mat time in the tournament victory.

De Paz was a perfect 7-0 overall last week

Alayah Ervin, Northwestern Basketball: The 5-foot-6 senior scored four points, grabbed eight rebounds, five steals and four assists in a 47-33 win over Nation Ford, Dec. 13.

Ervin also had 12 points and 12 rebounds in a 40-34 loss to Rock Hill, Dec. 16.

Ervin is averaging seven points, eight rebounds and three steals per game for Northwestern (2-6) this season.

Jarrett Eubanks, Catawba Ridge Wrestling: The Copperheadds’ junior had five pints to win the 170-pound title at the Mill Town Duals, Dec. 17.

Eubanks, who is 22-4 overall this season, beat his opponents from Ashley Ridge, Chesterfield, Fort Mill, Greenwood and South Pointe to earn the Mill Town Dual title.

Chloe Hudson, Rock Hill Basketball: The 5-foot-6 freshman scored 12 points and had four assists, three rebounds and two steals in a 40-34 win at Northwestern, Dec. 16.

Hudson is averaging 12.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.8 steals for Rock Hill (4-2) this season.

KeMarja Peay, Lancaster Basketball: The 5-foot-9 sophomore had 18 points and eight rebounds in a 65-49 win over Fairfield Central, Dec. 14.

Peay also scored 25 points and had 12 rebounds and two assists in a 51-49 loss to 1 of 1 Academy Red in the Battle for the Crown Invitational at United Faith Academy, Dec. 17.

Peay is averaging 14.9 points and 9.1 rebounds per game for Lancaster (5-2) this season.

Brooke Taylor, Clover Basketball: The Blue Eagles’ junior guard had 16 points, three assists and two steals in a 54-25 win at York, Dec. 16.

Taylor also had nine points and four rebounds in a 42-41 loss to Gaffney, Dec. 14.

Taylor is averaging seven points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.1 steals per game for Clover (5-2) this season.
