Ayona Alexander, Andrew Jackson Girls’ Basketball: The 5-foot-11 freshman scored 30 points, grabbed nine rebounds and two steals in a 64-54 win over Kingstree in the 2A state quarterfinals, Feb. 21.
Alexander also scored 12 points to go with 14 rebounds, one assist, three steals and two blocks in a 39-38 loss to Bishop England in the 2A Lower State championship game, Feb. 24.
Alexander averaged 17.6 points, 11.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.4 steals and 2.1 blocks per game for Andrew Jackson (22-6) this season.
Tydriez “Dre” Coleman, Great Falls Basketball: The 6-foot-8 senior scored 21 points and had 11 rebounds in a 70-68 win over Denmark-Olar in the 1A state quarterfinals, Feb. 22.
Great Falls (24-6) also lost 55-27 to Christ Church in the 1A Upper State championship game at Bob Jones University, Feb. 25.
Corey Dye, Jr., Northwestern Wrestling: The Trojans’ junior won the 4A state championship at 113 pounds at the Anderson Sports and Entertainment Center, Feb. 25.
Dye, who was 37-5 overall this season, is 80-19 in his Northwestern wrestling career.
Josh Horn, Indian Land Wrestling: The Warriors’ freshman won the 4A state championship at 106 pounds at the Anderson Sports and Entertainment Center, Feb. 25.
Horn won the championship match in a 6-0 decision.
Noah Kitchton, Fort Mill Wrestling: The Yellow Jackets’ senior won the 5A state championship at 145 pounds at the Anderson Sports and Entertainment Center, Feb. 25.
Kitchton, who was 30-3 overall this season, is 81-22 in his Fort Mill Wrestling career.
Kitchton also helped the Fort Mill boys’ wrestling team to a 5A dual, state (team) championship earlier this month.
Grant Lovette, Catawba Ridge Basketball: The 6-foot-2 senior scored 19 points in a 71-60 loss at Greenville in the third round of the 4A state playoffs, Feb. 20, their deepest run in school history.
Lovette averaged 15 points, eight rebounds and three assists per game for Catawba Ridge (24-5) this season.
Drue Shipman, Lewisville Wrestling: The Lions’ senior finished off his high school career by winning the 1A/2A state championship at 152 pounds at the Anderson Sports and Entertainment Center, Feb. 25.
Shipman finished the season 33-4 overall.
A.J. Washington, Fort Mill Basketball: The 6-foot-3 freshman scored 13 points and had two rebounds, two steals and a block in a 66-33 loss to Dorman in the 5A state quarterfinals, Feb. 22.
Washington averaged 10.1 points and four rebounds per game for Fort Mill (17-11) this season.
Ghaleb Wilson, Andrew Jackson Basketball: The 6-foot-2 junior scored 16 points, had seven rebounds, two blocks, one assist and one steal in a 59-53, 2A state quarterfinal win over Woodland, Feb. 22.
Wilson also scored 20 points to go with seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks in a 75-38 loss to Oceanside Collegiate Academy in the 2A Lower State championship game (state semifinals), Feb. 24.
Wilson averaged 18.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.5 blocks for Andrew Jackson (22-4) this season.
