Rock Hill Herald Spring Sports’ Athletes of the Week

Trinity Bowins, Northwestern Girls’ Track: The Trojans’ senior made a personal-best 17-2.5 to win the long jump at the Region III, 4A championship at York, May 4.

Bowins also went 34-1.5 to win the triple jump at the same meet.

The Northwestern girls’ track team finished third at the region championships.

Garrett Brown, South Pointe Track: The Stallions’ junior ran a personal-best 4:25.40 to win the 1600-meter run at the Region III, 4A championship at York High, May 4.

Brown followed that up by running another personal-best 9:34.90 to win the region title in 3200-meter run.

Brown’s efforts helped lead the South Pointe track team to a region title, beating the field by 51 points.

Alivia Cleveland, Fort Mill Girls’ Track: The Yellow Jackets’ ran a 5:02.69 to win the 1600-meter run at the Region III, 5A championship at Spring Valley High, May 3.

Cleveland also won the region title in the 3200-meter run in 10:58.81.

Jordan Dahmer, Rock Hill Track: The Bearcats’ senior jumped a personal-best 6-8 to win the Region III, 5A championship at Spring Valley High, May 3.

Dahmer’s high jump tied a 34-year old school record.

Mason Haynes, Nation Ford Track: The Falcons’ sophomore won the 1600-meter run in 4:26.59 at the Region III, 5A state championship at Spring Valley High, May 3.

Haynes also won the 3200-meter run in 9:31.56 at the same meet.

Juelz Mickles, Lancaster Track: The Bruins’ junior ran a personal-best 10.98 to win the 100-meter dash at the Region III, 4A championship at York High, May 4.

Mickles also ran a 22.61 to finish third in the 200-meter dash at the same meet to lead the Lancaster boys’ track team to a fourth-place finish.

Evan Morris, Nation Ford Soccer: The Falcons’ senior goalkeeper allowed just one goal on a penalty kick rebound, despite playing 110 minutes including two overtimes to lead Nation Ford to a 2-1 win over No. 1 seed J.L. Mann on the road in the second round of the 5A state playoffs, May 3.

Nation Ford (16-7) also won 3-1 at Byrnes in the opening round of the playoffs, May 1 and lost at Clover, 4-1, in the third round, May 5.

Morris is a Queens University commit.

Jasmine Nixon, Indian Land Girls’ Soccer: The Warriors’ junior scored on a header and ripped another goal “upper 90,” to lead Indian Land to a 4-0 win over Airport in the second round of the 4A state playoffs, May 4.

Indian Land (18-2-1) also beat Wade Hampton 1-0 in the third round of the playoffs, May 6.

Deaton Reed, Indian Land Golf: The Warriors’ shot a one-under par, 71, to earn medalist honors at the Region III, 4A tournament at Lancaster Golf Club, May 1.

Reed led the Indian Land golf team to a region title at the same match.

Morgan Savage, Legion Collegiate Girls’ Lacrosse: The Lancers’ senior scored two goals to help Legion Collegiate to a 14-11 win at Rabun Gap Nacoochee, May 6.

Legion Collegiate is 8-4 overall this season.
