Rock Hill Herald Spring Sports’ Athletes of the Week

Gabby Badillo, Clover Softball: The Blue Eagles’ junior went 2-for-4 at the plate with two singles, one run, one stolen base and one walk as Clover split 5A state playoff games with Byrnes and Woodmont this week.

Clover (22-6) beat Woodmont, 4-3, May 10, and lost to Byrnes, 4-2, May 12, but is still alive because of the double elimination format.

Jayden Burris, Northwestern Track: The Trojans’ junior jumped a personal-best 22-5 to win the 4A Upper State championships at Eastside High, May 13.

Burris also had another personal-best 46-10.2 to finish third in the triple jump at the same meet.

The Northwestern boys’ track team finished fifth overall at the 4A Upper State championships.

Alivia Cleveland, Fort Mill Track: The Yellow Jackets’ freshman ran a personal-best 4:56.69 to win the 1600-meter run at the 5A Upper State championships at Dorman, May 13.

Cleveland also won the Upper State title in the 3200-meter run in 11:09.40.

The Fort Mill girls’ track team finished sixth-place at the same meet.

Caitlin Edwards, Great Falls Track: The Red Devils’ senior threw a personal-best 115-6 to win the discus at the 1A Upper State championships at Lower Richland High, May 13.

Edwards also finished 17th overall in the shot put (25-1.5) at the same meet.

Mason Haynes, Nation Ford Track: The Falcons’ junior won the 5A Upper State championships in 9:44.80 at Dorman High, May 13.

Haynes also finished as runner-up in the 1600-meter run in a personal-best 4:23.35 at the same meet.

The Nation Ford boys’ track team finished fifth at the 5A Upper State championships.

Isaiah Palmer, Rock Hill Track: The Bearcats’ junior won the pole vault with 14-6 at 5A Upper State championships at Dorman High, May 13.

Palmer vaulted a personal-best 15-0 to win the same event at the Region III, 5A championships, May 3.

The Rock Hill boys’ track team finished fourth overall at the 5A Upper State championships.

Jaevan Sanders, South Pointe Track: The Stallions’ senior ran personal best times to win the 100-meter dash (10.77) and the 200-meter dash (21.38) at the 4A Upper State championships at Eastside High, May 13.

Sanders also helped the 4 X 100-meter relay to an Upper State title on the same day.

The South Pointe boys’ track team was the 4A Upper State runner-up.
