Rock Hill knocks off Johnsonville in first game of Junior Legion baseball state tourney
Rock Hill Post 34 Junior Legion Red opened the state tournament Saturday with a 3-1 win over Johnsonville.
Starting pitcher Conner Edkins got the win for Rock Hill, allowing just four hits and the single run, scored in the fourth. That tied the score at 1 all, after Edkins singled in the first inning and Grant Willson brought him in with an RBI single.
Post 34 grabbed the lead for good in the fifth inning. Collins Bennett’s bunt loaded the bases and Garrett Gwin scored a run with a single. A nice double play turned by Rock Hill’s Gwin and Connor Partlow kept Post 34 in front, and Dell Corley’s club added to the lead in the sixth inning. Evan Bess doubled and Gwin knocked in his second run of the game to make it 3-1.
Rock Hill (22-1) is back in action Sunday in Inman, facing the hosts at 7:30 p.m.
