Prep football: Schools in the Rock Hill region will face familiar opponents this week

Another York County team travels north across the state line this week as part of the high school football schedule.

But the common thread this week is familiarity.

Several other teams will cross county lines, but the travel distance won’t be long. It’s a week for rivalry games and these teams know each other.

Here’s the complete rundown for this week. All kickoffs are scheduled for 7:30 p.m unless stated otherwise.

Chester (3-0) at South Pointe (2-1)

South Pointe is coming off a tough road loss to Gaffney last week for a home game against a Chester team boasting a dominant win over rival Fairfield Central.

Nation Ford (2-1) at Northwestern (1-1)

Coming off a bye, Northwestern looks to improve its record to 2-0 against 5A schools as Nation Ford comes to visit. The Falcons are coming off a win over Catawba Ridge that saw them dominate for most of the game.

Rock Hill (1-1) at Lower Richland (1-2)

Rock Hill had a solid win over Lancaster last week and can get above-.500 facing a Lower Richland squad that lost 47-6 to Ridge View last week.

York (2-0) at Clover (0-2)

This matchup is just another chapter as York takes on longtime rival Clover. York has lost the last four games against Clover and is 1-5 since 2016. York is looking for its first 3-0 start since 2017, while Clover is looking to avoid its first 0-3 start since 2014.

Indian Land (2-1) at Fort Mill (0-2)

Indian Land aims to extend its win streak to three games in a row as it heads a short distance down the road to Fort Mill to take on the Yellow Jackets. Fort Mill is coming off a bye. All three of Indian Land’s games have been decided by one point.

Catawba Ridge (1-2) at Ardrey Kell (1-2)

Catawba Ridge heads a few miles north to southeast Charlotte to take on Ardrey Kell. Both schools are coming off tough losses last week. Both schools won their first two games. This will be the first-ever matchup between the two teams after their 2019 matchup was cancelled due to COVID. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Lancaster (0-3) at Fairfield Central (2-1)

Lancaster is seeking its first win of the season. Both teams are coming off big losses and look to get their season back on track. Lancaster’s offense is averaging fewer than 12 points per game.

Lamar (1-2) at Andrew Jackson (0-2)

Andrew Jackson hasn’t had the start it wanted, but the Volunteers look to get back in the win column against a Lamar team that has only scored eight points in its last two games. Andrew Jackson won last year’s matchup 26-14.

South Carolina Spartans (0-3) at Buford (1-2)

Buford got its first win of the season last week against Lee Central and will look to add to the win column against a South Carolina Spartans team that has lost its three games by an average of over 38 points.

Blacksburg (2-1) at Lewisville (2-1)

After dropping its first game, Lewisville has won its last two games by a margin of 107-0, and the top-ranked 1A team in the state will look to extend its win streak to three against a Blacksburg team coming off an electric win over Cherryville.

Great Falls (1-2) at Columbia (1-2)

Great Falls heads to face a Columbia team coming off a 27-14 loss to Edisto last week. Great Falls hasn’t played in two weeks after Scott Branch cancelled last week’s matchup between the two schools due to concerns over Hurricane Idalia. Columbia won last year’s game 30-28.
