Rock Hill Herald Fall Sports’ Athletes of the Week

Garrett Brown, South Pointe Cross Country: The Stallions’ senior ran a 15:49.92 to finish as runner-up in the Boys’ International 5K at the Bob Jenkins’ Coaches Classic at Newberry College, Oct. 14.

The South Pointe cross country team also finished 30th-place at the same event.

Landon Cabe, Riverwalk Academy Cross Country: The Lions’ sophomore ran a 20:10.50 to finish 20th-place of 98 runners in a six-team event at York, Oct. 12.

Cabe’s efforts helped the Riverwalk Academy cross country to a third-place finish the same day.

Cabe run a personal-best 18:59.90 at York, Sept. 21.

Ben Carroll, Indian Land Cross Country: The Warriors’ senior ran a 17:54.80 to win the Lancaster County Championships at Lancaster High, Oct. 10.

Carroll’s run helped the Indian Land cross country team to county championship by 19 points over runner-up, Andrew Jackson.

Kayli Cervantes-Pena, Andrew Jackson Cross Country: The Volunteers’ freshman ran a personal-best 22:11.19 to win the Lancaster County Championships at Lancaster High, Oct. 14.

Cervantes-Pena, who earned her first individual victory of the season, also led the Andrew Jackson girls’ cross country team to a Lancaster County runner-up finish behind Indian Land.

Alivia Cleveland, Fort Mill Cross Country: The Yellow Jackets’ sophomore ran a 18:31.95 to win the Girls’ International 5K at the Bob Jenkins’ Coaches’ Classic at Newberry College, Oct. 14.

Cleveland, who was nine second faster than the field, also led the Fort Mill girls’ cross country team to a third-place finish at Newberry College.

Katelyn Evans, Catawba Ridge Tennis: The Copperheads’ sophomore won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles in a 4-2, team loss to Indian Land, Oct. 11.

Catawba Ridge is 8-4 overall this season.

Mackenzie Finn, Fort Mill Golf: The Yellow Jackets’ senior shot a career-best, two-under par, 70, to finish as runner-up at the Region III, 5A championships at Chester Golf Club, Oct. 9.

Finn also helped the Fort Mill girls’ golf team to a co-region title with Nation Ford, as both teams tied with a score of 328.

Vivian Harris, Nation Ford Golf: The Falcons’ senior shot an even par, 72, to lead her Nation Ford golf team at the Region III, 5A championships at Chester Golf Club, Oct. 9.

Harris’ efforts helped the Nation Ford girls’ golf team to a co-region title with Fort Mill.

Valerie Perez, Rock Hill Swimming: The Bearcats’ junior swam a school-record 5:37.91 to finish 22nd-place at the S.C. 5A state championships at the University of South Carolina, Oct. 14.

Perez also helped the 400 freestyle relay to a school-record time of 3:56.97 to finish 17th-place at the 5A state meet.

Perez competed in the state meet for the third consecutive season.

Ava Shook, York Cross Country: The Cougars’ sophomore ran a personal-best 19:41.90 to win individually in a six-team meet at York, Oct. 12.

Shook’s run helped the York girls’ cross country team to a third-place finish the same day.
