Rock Hill High School football head coach steps down from the position after 10 years

Rock Hill High School is looking for a new head football coach.

According to a news release from the school district, David “Bubba” Pittman stepped down Monday, effective immediately. Pittman will remain with the district as a special education teacher.

“I would like to thank Rock Hill Schools for giving me the opportunity to lead this program for the past 10 years,” Pittman said in the news release. “As a young boy, I dreamed of having the opportunity to be the Head Football Coach of Rock Hill High School. I attempted to build a program through hard work, serving others, and doing things the right way. My goal was always to use the game of football to help produce quality citizens for our community ... As I step away, I feel I have accomplished that goal.”

Pittman’s teams went 38-67 in his 10 years as the Bearcats’ coach. Rock Hill won a region title in 2018, and had three winning seasons during his tenure.

Pittman was named the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association Region Coach of the Year in 2018.

“Our student-athletes have excelled academically, done countless hours of community service, and been provided multiple opportunities to play at the collegiate level under Coach Pittman’s leadership,” Eric Rollings, Athletics Director at Rock Hill High School said in the release. “We would like to thank Coach Pittman for his dedication to Rock Hill High Football.”

Pittman began his tenure at Rock Hill High School in 2013 as the team’s offensive coordinator after serving in the same position at Northwestern High School in Rock Hill. He is a former Bearcats quarterback, and also played for and graduated from Presbyterian College.
