Prep football playoff roundup: South Pointe rolls again; Clover, Catawba Ridge fall
South Pointe and Lewisville joined Northwestern as the sole football playoff survivors from the Greater Rock Hill area by posting big victories in the second round Friday night.
But it was the end of the line for several other area teams, as Clover, Catawba Ridge, Chester and Andrew Jackson lost their playoff games.
Rock Hill’s season ended with a loss Thursday night.
Here is a look at how area teams fared in Week 2 of the playoffs:
SOUTH POINTE 56, GREER 17
Cam McMillon fired four touchdown passes, and Mason Pickett-Hicks ran for three more scores, as the Stallions (10-2) powered past Greer (7-5) in a Class 4A game.
Greer had taken a 3-0 lead with 1:49 gone in the game on a short field goal. But on South Pointe’s first play from scrimmage, McMillon connected with Jordan Collins on a 74-yard scoring pass. That put South Pointe up 7-3, and the Stallions pulled away.
McMillon and Collins connected from 25 yards midway in the first quarter, and McMillion then threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Pickett-Hicks later in the period.
Pickett-Hicks also scored on runs of 14 and 64 yards in the first half, and 44 yards in the third quarter. He had 111 rushing yards in the first half.
McMillon also threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Sean Young.
The victory set up a big state quarterfinal game next Friday, with South Pointe traveling to traditional powerhouse Daniel (11-1).
LEWISVILLE 46, RIDGE SPRING-MONETTA 8
The Lions (11-1) trounced Ridge Spring-Monetta in a 1A playoff game and advanced to a third-round contest next Friday at Hunter-Kinard-Tyler.

T.L. HANNA 57, CATAWBA RIDGE 34
The host Yellow Jackets (9-2) broke open this Class 5A/Division 2 game with three straight touchdowns in the first six minutes of the second quarter.
T.L. Hanna scored on runs by K.D. Patterson and Daylon Williams for a 14-0 lead, by C.J. Couch tossed a 9-yard touchdown pass to Brady Ambrose late in the first quarter, cutting the deficit to 14-7.

The Copperheads (8-4) scored again in the first half on a 7-yard touchdown pass from Couch to Preston Cooper. That cut the Yellow Jackets’ lead to 36-19 at the half.
But T.L. Hanna scored twice in the third quarter and pulled away. The Yellow Jackets travel to Gaffney next Friday.
J.L. MANN 44, CLOVER 14
J. L. Mann scored 44 consecutive points and ousted the Blue Eagles in a Class 5A/Division 1 game. Clover (8-4) scored first, on an 8-yard pass from Aaron Shealey to T.J. McCluney just 3:30 into the game.
But the Patriots (9-2) tied it on a 50-yard touchdown catch by Keyshaun Henderson just 45 seconds later and took the lead for good on a 3-yard run by Na’Cyus Morrison with four minutes left in the first quarter.
J.L. Mann, which travels to Spartanburg next Friday, led 23-7 at the half and built the margin to 44-7. Clover finished the scoring on Landon Stone’s 55-yard touchdown run with two minutes to play.
RIVER BLUFF 34, ROCK HILL 17
In a Class 5A/Division 1 game played Thursday night in Rock Hill, River Bluff scored the game’s final 24 points and advanced.
Rock Hill (5-6) had taken a 17-7 lead in the second quarter, scoring on a short run and a short pass. A 50-yard pass reception by Malik Clark also set up a Rock Hill field goal.
The Bearcats led 17-10 at halftime, but River Bluff (9-2) scored twice in the third quarter, on ahosrt runs by Hayden Myers and Darius Caine. The second score, which put River Bluff ahead to stay, was set up by an interception.
CLINTON 48, CHESTER 20
Mistakes hurt Chester, as the Cyclones’ (5-6) saw their season end with a second-round 2A loss at Clinton (9-2).
Trailing 28-6 late in the first half, Chester drove to the Clinton 9 but fumbled the ball away. The Cyclones also had a long touchdown run in the second half called back by a penalty.
