High school basketball gameday: A look at the weekend’s top Rock Hill-area games

There’s a full schedule of high school basketball in the Rock Hill area this weekend, and here is a look ahead at the prep action:

FRIDAY

(boys) Andrew Jackson (2-3) at Indian Land (7-0), around 7:30 p.m. — The visiting Volunteers have state title ambitions this season and are facing a tough nonconference schedule. They have three players averaging in double figures, led by Zeke Clyburn (12.6 points). Indian Land is off to a torrid start, with all-state candidate Michael Jones averaging 19.4 points.

(boys) Lancaster (5-0) vs. Dynamic Prep, TX (8-3), 8 p.m. — The Bruins face a national powerhouse in the Bash, at Ridge View High in Columbia. Dynamic Prep, based in Irving, Texas, is led by a familiar name — Jermaine O’Neal Jr., son of six-time NBA sll-star Jermaine O’Neal. Jermaine Jr. is averaging 15.5 points a game. Lancaster counters with all-stater Jordan Watford (25.6 points, 6.2 rebounds a contest).

SATURDAY

(boys) Indian Land (7-0) vs. McCallie School (5-3), in Ish Smith Classic at Hickory Ridge, 1:30 p.m. — The Warriors face Tennessee-based McCallie School as part of the daylong Ish Smith showcase event in Harrisburg, northeast of Charlotte. Junior Michael Jones (19.4 ppg) faces a Blue Tornado team that has scored 90 or more points three times.
