Rock Hill area high school basketball rewind: Fort Mill, Indian Land meet again in Round 3

Next week’s quarterfinal round of the South Carolina high school playoffs will have a local feel, for basketball fans in York and Lancaster counties.

Nine area teams won second-round playoff games Thursday and Friday nights, setting up three showdowns next week between local teams.

Fort Mill and Indian Land will meet for the third time this season, with this game coming in the Class 5A/Division 2 quarterfinals.

And in Class 4A, South Pointe and Lancaster will square off in both the boys’ and girls’ quarterfinal round.

Friday’s second round also saw Rock Hill knock off Clover in a double-overtime Class 5A/Division 1 playoff game.

And Andrew Jackson’s boys and girls continued to roll in the 2A ranks.

Here is a wrapup of Friday action, plus all the scores and schedules:

Boys

Fort Mill 68, Woodmont 54: The Yellow Jackets (25-2) played a solid game in eliminating the Wildcats (14-13) in 5A/Division 2. Logan Parker, a 6-2 senior wing, poured in 28 points and added eight rebounds. Wallace Campbell, a 6-6 junior, had 13 points and nine rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets will host Indian Land at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Fort Mill won both meetings with the Warriors earlier this season.

Indian Land 92, Easley 67: The Warriors (24-3) made school history with their easy victory, setting a single-season record for victories. It also was Indian Land’s first home playoff game in 12 years.

Mike Jones led the way with 25 points, and Sequel Patterson added 20. Freshman Donovin Jones had 15 points, and Jayden Williams added 10 points and 11 rebounds. The Warriors led 18-14 after one quarter but outscored the Green Wacve (13-15) 29-10 in the second quarter.

South Pointe 54, Berea 43: The Stallions (18-8) advanced in 4A, as three players — Tre Raymon, Jah Hill and R.J. Hill — each had 10 rebounds. Raymon scored 15 points, Hall had 13, and Hill added 12.

Lancaster 73, A.C. Flora 58 (Thursday): The Bruins (24-1) rolled along, beating a team by 15 points that had given them trouble twice during the regular season. Jordan Watford led the way with 22 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and four blocks. Columbus Parker added 17 points, and R.J. Brown scored 12.

Lancaster will host South Pointe on Tuesday. The Bruins went 2-0 against South Pointe during the regular season.

Riverside 63, Catawba Ridge 49: The Copperheads’ run in 5A/Division 2 came to an end with a loss to Riverside (20-7). Catawba Ridge (11-13) was led by Mark Caslaru, with 14 points, six rebounds and eight blocked shots. Elijah Peters added 14 points and five rebounds.

Batesburg-Leesville 61, York Prep 60: The Patriots (16-11) saw their season end as Braylen Davis hit a last-second winning shot for the Panthers (17-7) in the 2A playoffs.

Andrew Jackson 65, Manning 55: The Volunteers (19-5) advanced in 2A, behind 20 points from Damias Seegars, 16 from Bryce Peterson, and 14 from Zeke Clyburn. Manning (16-6) bolted to a 16-10 first-quarter lead, but Andrew Jackson piled up a 39-20 margin in the second and third quarters. The Volunteers’ quarterfinal game is Wednesday at top seed Hampton County.

Girls

Rock Hill 62, Clover 59 (2 OT): Chloe Hudson hit a 3-point shot with six seconds left, tying the game in regulation, and the Bearcats eventually won in double-overtime. Hudson hit 11 3-pointers in the game and finished with 38 points. Aubrey Stevenson added 11 points.

After Hudson’s shot, Clover had enough time for a final shot but missed. Rock Hill (20-6), which had lost twice to Clover (23-3) in the regular season, advanced to the 5A/Division 1 quarterfinals Monday at Blythewood.

South Pointe 90, Wren 36: The Stallions (28-0) kept rolling along, bolting to a huge early lead against the overwhelmed Hurricanes (17-10). South Pointe’s quarterfinal game in Class 4A will be Wednesday at home against Lancaster.

Lancaster 52, Blue Ridge 40: The 12th-seeded Bruins (14-13) stunned the fourth-seeded Flying Tigers (20-7) with a pair of big runs. The game was tied 17-all late in the first quarter when Lancaster went on a 17-0 run. Then, when Blue Ridge closed to within 40-36 in the fourth quarter, Lancaster went on an 8-0 run.

Andrew Jackson 100, Marion 41 (Thursday): The Volunteers (24-3) surged into the 2A quarterfinals, as Tamia Watkins scored 38 points and grabbed 19 rebounds. Ni’Yonna Asbelle added 25 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, and five steals. Marion (16-9) trailed 52-10 at halftime. Andrew Jackson’s next game is home Tuesday against Atlantic Collegiate.

Greenville 39, Fort Mill 35: The Yellow Jackets (16-11) lost this 5A/Division 2 contest on their home floor to Greenville (15-12).

Greenwood 77, Nation Ford 26: The host Eagles (16-9) jumped to a 27-8 first-quarter lead and were up 42-16 at halftime of this 5A/Division 2 game. Nation Ford finished 13-15.
