Clover’s Aaron Shealey is The Herald’s high school athlete of the week

Clover High football player Aaron Shealey is The Herald’s athlete of the week.

The 6-foot-3, 193-pound quarterback went 8 for 11 for 180 yards passing and two touchdown passes in a 30-21 win over Hillcrest on Aug. 29.

Shealey also rushed for 46 yards in the victory.

Last week’s other finalists

Kason Canupp, Nation Ford football: The 6-foot-1, 175-pound senior quarterback went 13 for 19 for 246 yards passing and three touchdowns in a 28-14 win over York on Aug. 29.

Canupp also ran for 65 yards on six carries in the victory.

Canupp has passed for 621 yards and seven touchdown passes, while running for 182 yards and another score for Nation Ford (1-1) this season.

Libba Faircloth, South Pointe girls’ cross-country: The Stallions’ junior ran a season-best 19:20.90 to finish in 23rd at the Eye Opener Invitational at the Roger Milliken Center on Aug. 30 in Spartanburg.

Michael Johnson, Indian Land football: The 6-foot-1, 210-pound senior middle linebacker had 15 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and scored a defensive touchdown to lead Indian Land to a 42-7 win at Lancaster on Aug. 29.

Indian Land is 2-0 overall this season.

Camille McKinney, Legion Collegiate volleyball: The Lancers’ senior setter had 35 assists, five digs and two kills in three matches as Legion Collegiate beat Ambassador Christian (2-1) and Hopewell (2-0) on Aug. 30, while losing 3-0 to Pickens on Aug. 26.

Legion Collegiate is 5-4 overall this season.

Brooke Mehlhouse, Catawba Ridge girls’ golf: The Copperheads’ sophomore shot a two-day total of 158 to finish third in a 60-person field and lead Catawba Ridge to a third-place finish at the Lady Blue Jacket Invitational on Aug. 22-23.

Mehlhouse also led Catawba Ridge to victory over Indian Land, shooting a 3-over-par 39 to earn medalist honors on Aug. 27.

Kaylee Rovenstine, Fort Mill girls’ cross-country: The Yellow Jackets’ junior ran a 18.30.80 to finish in fourth at the Eye Opener Invitational at the Roger Milliken Center in Spartanburg on Aug. 30.

Rovenstine’s efforts also led the Fort Mill girls’ cross-country team to a runner-up finish in the 38-team field at the same event.

Kam Vance, Northwestern football: The 5-foot-8, 165-pound senior wide receiver had eight catches for 130 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-28 win over Ridge View on Aug. 29.

Vance also had three kickoff returns for 128 yards, including a 90-yard return for a touchdown in the same game.

Vance, a Lafayette College commit, has 16 catches for 219 yards and three touchdowns, and four kick returns for 149 yards and another score for Northwestern (2-0) this season.

Hunter Willis, Riverwalk Academy cross-country: The Lions’ freshman ran a personal-best 17:25.60 to finish 17th at the Eye Opener Invitational at the Roger Milliken Center on Aug. 30 in Spartanburg.
