Fort Mill girls win Rock Hill swim meet
The Fort Mill girls and the Fort Dorchester boys won the team titles in the Upstate Invitational Swimming Meet at the Rock Hill Aquatics Center Saturday.
Fort Mill dominated the girls’ division with 207 points, while the Nation Ford Falcons finished second with 83 points. The Clover Blue Eagles were third with 81.
Fort Mill won all three of the relay events and claimed first in three individual events. Erynn Black won the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke, while Jenna Pehoski won the 500 freestyle.
Claire Holliday of South Pointe won the 200 freestyle, and Rock Hill’s Lanie Jo Knight was the top performer in the 50 freestyle.
Fort Dorchester was 45 points better than second place Nation Ford in the boys’ division. Fort Mill was third with 106 points.
Fort Dorchester won two of three relay events with Nation Ford winning the 400 freestyle relay. Fort Dorchester also won two individual events.
In addition to the relay win, Nation Ford won two individual events. Trent Cubine won the 50 freestyle, while Ryan Williams claimed the 500 freestyle.
Fort Mill won two individual races. Ben Fenwick was first in the 200 freestyle, and Owen Corkery was the top performer in the 100 bckstroke. Seth Hurst of Clover won the 200 individual medley.
Fort Mill head coach Cindy Van Buskirk was pleased with her team’s performance.
“I was proud of the effort we gave today,” said Van Buskirk, who is in her eighth season as head coach. “I thought the boys really stepped it up, and the girls did exceptionally well. Both teams are young, so this was a confidence builder for them.”
Nation Ford coach Kristin Martin, who is starting her second season, said, “We have a very young team. We really swam well today. I was pleasantly surprised by the performances both teams turned in. This result today should really help our confidence down the road.”
