High school roundup: Nation Ford volleyball blanks Easley in state playoff opener

The Nation Ford volleyball team topped Easley 3-0 in the opening round of the Class 4A playoffs at Nation Ford. The Falcons won 25-17, 25-21 and 25-11 over the Green Wave.

The Falcons built comfortable leads at the midway point of each game in recording the first-round win.

Nation Ford was led by Jessica Kemp, who had nine kills, three digs and four blocks. Kelli Martin added nine kills, four digs, and three blocks.

Clarissa Bates had 30 assists, six aces and seven digs. Chanel Turner added five kills and 14 digs, while Ali Philbeck had four digs and three blocks.

Quin Sutphin had eight kills, and Madison Garner recorded 22 digs.

The Falcons (36-13-2) will host the winner of the match between Lugoff-Elgin and Mauldin on Tuesday in the second round of play.

Fort Mill 3, Greenwood 1: The Yellow Jackets won 25-20, 20-25, 27-25 and 25-19 over the Eagles in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs at Fort Mill.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Tessa Grubbs, who had 26 kills, and Payton Carter, who recorded 20 kills.

Brooke Farley had 54 assists for the Yellow Jackets in the opening-round victory.

Fort Mill, the second seed in Region 3, will travel to Dorman, the top seed in Region 1, in second round action on Tuesday.
