When Rock Hill High’s Brandon Banks completes his rehab from shoulder surgery in late January, he’ll play baseball free from pain, and also the stress of having to impress college coaches.

Banks sorted out his future Wednesday morning, signing a nearly full scholarship with Limestone to play baseball.

“I really enjoyed my visit up there, the tour of the school they took me on, and I really felt at home,” he said.

Banks, who also played quarterback for the Bearcats football team this fall, is built like a brick house. When Rock Hill High coach Dell Corley took over as the Bearcats’ baseball coach several years ago, he knew Banks would be one with next level potential.

Corley and assistant coach Patrick Elias made sure Banks got focused on academics; he now carries a 3.7 grade point average.

Corley also marketed his player, helping him get interest from schools across the state. Banks had interest from bigger schools like Gardner-Webb and Furman but they never pulled the trigger with offers. Limestone coaches did extend an offer, and also made their interest in Banks known very plainly.

“It was a good relationship with them. I could talk to them and felt comfortable around them,” said Banks. “So when they told me I had chance to play right away, I believed them.”
