Northwestern girls get first win of season, 58-49, over South Pointe
The Northwestern Trojans scored the final 13 points of a back-and-forth contest to defeat the previously unbeaten South Pointe Stallions 58-49 Wednesday night and earn their first win on the young season. Eleven different players scored for the Trojans. NaNa Jones led the home team with 15, Rachel Koterba had 14, and Aubrey Hamrick 11, all in the second half. It was her three with 2:45 left that put Northwestern up to stay, 51-49.
The Trojans only made 2-of-10 free throws in the third quarter but hit 10-of-14 in the fourth. The Stallions had led 46-41 with 6:43 to play.
Turning point
Aubrey Hamrick’s three with 2:45 to go gave Northwestern a lead they would never lose. They would score the final 13 points of the game after trailing 49-48.
Critical
Northwestern made 10-of-14 free throws in the fourth after hitting only 2-of-10 in the third. Eleven people scored for the Trojans.

Rachel Koterba scored 14 for Northwestern, NaNa Jones 15, and Aubrey Hamrick 11, with eight of those coming in the fourth. Sydney Chisholm had 13 and Izzy Clark 12 for the Stallions.

“That’s what is so great about this team, is we don’t have to rely on any one person,” Northwestern coach Lisa Rivers said.
It was Coach Rivers first win in her second stint as head coach with the Trojans.
On deck
Northwestern will host Spring Valley Thursday night and South Pointe will travel to Rock Hill on Friday.
The Trojans led 14-11 after the first quarter on the strength of an 11-2 run. NaNa Jones had six in the quarter for Northwestern.
The Stallions used a 10-0 spurt spanning the last basket of the first period and the first seven points of the second to take an 18-14 advantage. Sydney Chisholm hit two three-pointers during that stretch for six of her seven points in the quarter. Rachel Koterba also had seven in the period for the Trojans. Northwestern led 27-25 at the half.
