2015 All-Area cross country, swimming, girls’ tennis and girls’ golf

Girls’ golf

Player of the year: Jodee Tindal, South Pointe

Whitney Carter, South Pointe: Senior averaged 38.3 strokes per nine holes and 79.6 per 18. Carter – who signed with Winthrop – finished 10th at the 3A state tournament. She also played in the North-South all-star game.

Jodee Tindal, South Pointe: Tindal finished second at the 3A state championship match, shooting a 79-70-149. Tindal averaged 35.5 strokes per nine holes and 71.6 per 18. She also won the 3A Upper State tournament and is committed to play golf at Mercer, where she’ll join her older sister, Jaelyn.

Alyssa Campbell, Clover: Campbell was named 4A All-State after finishing ninth at the state tournament.

Baylee Evans, Lancaster: Evans finished fourth at the 3A state tournament, shooting a 75-78-153.

Girls’ swimming

Swimmer of the year: Claire Holliday, South Pointe

Claire Holliday, South Pointe: Won the 100 backstroke and finished fourth in the 200 freestyle at the 3A state championship meet.

Jenna Pehowski, Fort Mill: Second in 200 freestyle at the 4A state championship, third in the 500 freestyle. Pehowski won the 200 and 500 freestyle Region 3-4A championships, and was also a part of two successful Fort Mill relay teams that both finished third in the state.

Jessica Myers, York: Placed sixth in the 200 yard freestyle and fifth in the 100 freestyle at the 4A state championship meet.

Erynn Black, Fort Mill: Freshman finished third in the state in the 100 backstroke, after winning the Region 3-4A championship in that event. Black was also seventh in the state in the 200 IM.

Aubrey Chandler, Fort Mill: Won the 50 and 100 freestyle Region 3-4A titles; her 50 free time at the region championship meet was the state’s second fastest all season. Chandler also finished third in the 50 free and seventh in the 100 free at the state meet.

Boys’ swimming

Swimmer of the year: Ben Fenwick, Fort Mill

Ben Fenwick, Fort Mill: Won the 500 freestyle state title, while finishing second in the 200 freestyle. Fenwick also won the 200 and 500 free Region 3-4A titles and was a key part of several successful Yellow Jackets relay units.

Kasparas Zilinskas, Fort Mill: Won the 50 freestyle Region 3-4A title and finished sixth at the state meet in the same event.

Samuel Fitzgerald, Nation Ford: Won the Region 3-4A title in the 100 freestyle, before finishing sixth in that event at the 4A state championship meet.

Ryan Williams, Nation Ford: Finished second in the 500 freestyle in the Region 3-4A and 4A state championship meets.

Michael Ellenburg, South Pointe: Finished fifth in the 50 freestyle at the 3A state championship meet.

Girls’ cross country

Runner of the year: Olivia Paxton, South Pointe

Olivia Paxton, South Pointe: Senior signed to run at Winthrop finished fourth at the 3A state championship meet. Paxton also won the Region 3-3A and 3A Upper State championships.

Lauren Sizemore, Indian Land: Seventh grader finished third in the 2A state championship meet. Sizemore finished second in the Region 4-2A championship.

Kaitlyn Rodman, Indian Land: Eighth grader finished 16th at the 2A state championship meet and won the Region 4-2A championship.

Megan Flynn, Lewisville: Ninth grader placed fourth in the 1A state championship meet.

Marlena Schwinhorst, Nation Ford: Junior finished 10th at the 4A state championship and second in the Region 3-4A meet.

Lanie Jo Knight, Rock Hill: Sophomore finished 26th at the 4A state meet, and second at the Middle State championship. Knight won the Region 3-4A championship.

Boys’ cross country

Runner of the year: Ben Clark, Clover

Ben Clark, Clover: Junior finished 19th at the 4A state cross country championship, and sixth at the Upper State championship. Clark won the Region 3-4A title too.

Austin St. John, Indian Land: Junior finished ninth at the 2A state meet after a 16th place finish at the Upper State meet. St. John won the Region 4-2A championship meet.

Daniel Johnson, South Pointe: Senior finished 22nd at the 3A state meet, eighth at the Upper State meet, and participated in the Shrine Bowl run.

Joey Teachout, Rock Hill: Junior finished 30th at the 4A state meet, sixth at the Middle State championship and second in the Region 3-4A meet.

Malcolm McClain, Nation Ford: Sophomore finished 11th at the 4A Middle State championship and 37th at the state championship meet.

Girls’ tennis

Player of the year: Robin Alston, Rock Hill

Robin Alston, Rock Hill: The 2015 Region 3-4A player of the year finished the regular season 15-0, qualifying for the 4A state singles tournament. Alston won three matches in the tournament – two in the winners’ bracket and one in the consolation bracket before bowing out.

Anna Sharp, Rock Hill: Two-time Region 3-4A player of the year finished the season with a 14-1 record and qualified for the state singles tournament.

Elizabeth Fitzgerald, Fort Mill: Fitzgerald was 10-2 in region play and qualified for the 3A-4A state singles tournament.
