High school roundup: weather prompts schools to move Friday games up to Thursday

The prediction of wintery weather for Rock Hill this weekend has caused two basketball rivalries to be bumped up a day, to Thursday.

Clover and York and Northwestern and Rock Hill were scheduled to play high school basketball contests Friday, but will now play a day earlier. No other games have been changed at this time.

Hall named coach of the year

The National Federation of High Schools has named Clover’s Shea Hall as South Carolina’s 2015 softball coach of the year. Hall led the Blue Eagles to the 4A state title last May in Columbia.

Indian Land’s Mayer in Shrine Bowl

On Wednesday, Indian Land head coach Michal Mayer was named as a S.C. assistant coach for the 2016 Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. The game will be played Dec. 17 at Wofford College.

Clover 48, Rock Hill 37

The Clover Blue Eagles defeated the Rock Hill Bearcats 48-37 in a Region 3-4A game at Clover Tuesday night.

Quise Robbins led the Blue Eagles with 19 points. Andrew Barber paced Rock Hill with 16 points.

Clover led 9-2 after one period, but Rock Hill cut the deficit to one point at the end of the third quarter.

Clover pulled away in the final period to pick up the win.

The victory improved the Blue Eagles to 11-6 overall and 4-2 in the region. The loss dropped the Bearcats to 5-7 overall and 2-4 in region play.

Fort Mill 52, Northwestern 39

The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets pulled away in the second half and picked up a 52-39 victory over the Northwestern Trojans in a Region 3-4A game at Northwestern.

Fort Mill led 36-27 after three quarters and outscored Northwestern 16-12 in the final period to secure the road victory.

The win improved Fort Mill to 6-0 in the region. They are the only unbeaten team in the region at the halfway mark in the season. The loss dropped Northwestern to 2-4 in region play.

The Gaffney Indians bolted to a 36-16 lead at halftime and survived a York comeback attempt and beat the Cougars 76-67 in a Region 3-4A battle at Gaffney.

Gaffney led 36-16 at halftime, but York charged back in the second half, cutting the deficit to five points in the fourth quarter, before the Indians pulled away down the stretch.

The win improved the Indians to 3-4 in the region, while the loss dropped the Cougars to 0-6 in region action.

York Prep 96, Grace Academy 55

The York Prep Patriots went on the road and tied a school record of 20 wins with a 96-55 victory over Grace Academy.

Tracus Chisholm led the way for the Patriots with 42 points. He had eight goals from beyond the 3-point line.

The win improved York Prep to 20-4.

Rock Hill 57, Clover 15

The Rock Hill Bearcats got 20 points from Rikoya Anderson and defeated the Clover Blue Eagles 57-15 in a Region 3-4A game at Clover Tuesday night.

Rock Hill led 22-5 at halftime and cruised on from there for the win. They are the only unbeaten team in the region at the midway point in the season.

The Fort Mill Yellow Jackets got back on the winning track with a 47-8 win over the Northwestern Trojans in a Region 3-4A match at Northwestern Tuesday night.
