High school roundup: Lancaster, Chester girls basketball teams roll on Tuesday
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Lancaster 64, South Pointe 38
The Lancaster Bruins pulled away in the final period to defeat the South Pointe Stallions 64-38 in a Region 3-3A showdown Tuesday night in Lancaster.
The Bruins opened the fourth quarter with a 17-0 run. When it was over, Lancaster led 56-34.
The win improved Lancaster to 16-2 overall and 9-0 in the region. South Pointe fell to 8-1 in the region with the loss.
The two teams play again on Friday night at South Pointe.

Chester 74, Clinton 27
The Chester Cyclones raced to a 23-5 lead after one period and never looked back as they routed the Clinton Red Devils 74-27 in a Region 3-3A contest at Chester.
Deja Marshall led the Cyclones with 22 points. Browniee McCrorey added 18 points, and Naja Killian chipped in 17 points for the Cyclones.
Chester will be the third seed in the region when the playoffs start next week.

Gaffney 49, Nation Ford 39
The Gaffney Indians topped the Nation Ford Falcons 49-39 in a Region 3-4A contest at Nation Ford.
The win improved Gaffney to 10-2 in the region. The Indians will be the second seed from the region when the playoffs begin next week. The loss dropped Nation Ford to 5-6 in region play.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Chester 76, Clinton 57
The Chester Cyclones toppled the Clinton Red Devils 76-57 in a Region 3-3A game at Chester.
The win gave the Cyclones the fourth seed in the region heading to the playoffs next week.
BASEBALL
South Carolina’s high school baseball coaches released their 2016 preseason rankings on Tuesday. Northwestern and Lewisville are the two local teams ranked, Northwestern at No. 6 in 4A and Lewisville at No. 5 in 1A. The Lions lost to Latta in last year’s 1A state title series; Latta starts 2016 as the No. 1-ranked team.
