High school roundup: South Pointe girls advance past Wests-Oak in 3A playoff opener

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

South Pointe 54, West-Oak 33

The South Pointe Stallions pulled away in the second half and defeated the West-Oak Warriors 54-33 in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs Tuesday night at South Pointe.

South Pointe led only 26-22 at halftime, but outscored the Warriors 13-4 in the third period to take a 39-26 lead.

Keia Williams led South Pointe with 10 points. The Stallions had 10 players score in the game.

The win improved the Stallions to 17-6 on the year. They will travel to Columbia on Thursday night to take on the top-ranked Dreher Blue Devils in the second round.

The Greenville Red Raiders built a 28-13 lead at halftime and defeated the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets 58-37 in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs at Greenville.

The loss ends the season for Fort Mill.

The Westside Rams defeated the Nation Ford Falcons 74-47 in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs at Westside.

The loss ends the season for the Falcons.

The Ridge Spring-Monetta Trojans edged the Lewisville Lions 52-47 in the opening round of the Class 1A playoffs Tuesday night at Ridge Spring-Monetta.

The Trojans led 44-42 with 5:08 to play in the game and hung on for the win. The loss ends the season for the Lions.

South Pointe 74, Walhalla 44

The fifth-ranked South Pointe Stallions raced to a 42-21 lead at halftime and routed the Walhalla Razorbacks 74-44 in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs at South Pointe.

The win moves South Pointe to the second round on Friday where the Stallions will host Lower Richland.

Seneca 94, Chester 64

The Seneca Bobcats defeated the Chester Cyclones 94-64 in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs at Seneca.

The loss ends the season for Chester.

The Calhoun County Saints defeated the Lewisville Lions 82-36 in the opening round of the Class A playoffs Monday night in St. Matthews.

Jordan Green was the top scorer for the Lions with 13 points. Lauren Crocker added seven points and Amber Bass scored six points for Lewisville.

The loss ended the season for the Lions with a mark of 5-16.
