Carroll Hester, athletic director at Clover High School, was honored with a state award of merit this week during a conference of athletic directors in Charleston.

The South Carolina merit award from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association is presented annually in each state for “outstanding leadership and meritorious service.”

“I was very honored, and looking back to the ones who have received this award in the past, to be considered in the same category,” said Carroll, who was recognized during a conference of the S.C. Athletic Administrators Association in Charleston.

Also recognized during the conference were Steve Boyd, athletic director at York Comprehensive High, as 4A AD of the year, and YCHS Principal Chris Black, as 4A principal of the year.

Carroll has announced plans to retire as Clover AD after the school year.

“I just love the job and I love working with young people, having a chance to make a difference in their lives,” Carroll said Wednesday. “And I hope that through the years, I have made some difference in the lives of the young people I’ve worked with.”
