High school sports roundup: Lewisville, Fort Mill, York win spring break tournaments

Lewisville won the Grey Bracket in The Grand Strand Softball Classic at Myrtle Beach earlier this week.

Lewisville won all three of the games they played to claim the crown.

On Monday, the Lions topped Penn Yan (N.Y.) 10-0. Chloe Thomas pitched a complete game and struck out eight to get the win. On Tuesday, they defeated Hedgesfield (W.Va.) 7-2. Thomas got the win with a complete game. She struck out 13.

Lewisville defeated Orangeburg Prep 9-5 on Wednesday for the title. Thomas picked up the win with a complete game. She struck out 10.

Lewisville improved to 14-2 overall.

Fort Mill wins Azalea softball tournament

Fort Mill won the prestigious Azalea Invitational in Summerville. The Yellow Jackets edged Summerville 2-1 in the championship game.

Fort Mill’s Payton Lemire was named as the tournament MVP. Teammates Julia Rajcok and Cassie McInerney joined her on the all-tournament team.

Baseball

York 13, Richmond County (N.C.) 2: York won the Sea Hawk Invitational Tournament at Hilton Head.

Trent Alexander pitched a complete game to pick up the win and improve to 3-1 on the year. He scattered five hits and struck out seven.

C.J. Grant led York with three hits and three RBI. Aaron Harper, Austin Devinney, John Moorefield, and Nick Clayton each had a pair of hits for York.

Harper and Clayton drove in two runs each, while Moorefield, who had a home run, and Devinney each had one RBI. Jake Trotter added a hit and drove in two runs for York.

Harper, Devinney, Moorefield, and Will McSwain were all named to the all-tournament team.

York is now 6-6 overall.

Indian Land 11, Andrew Jackson 3: Indian Land exploded for eight runs in the second inning and went on to defeat Andrew Jackson 11-3 in Region 4-2A contest at Indian Land.

The Warriors scored in the second on a walk by Justin Cope, a fielder's choice, a two-run single by Seth Bevans, a two-run double by Hunter Laney, an RBI single by Reed Lilly, and an error.

Daniel Gueldner had a pair of hits and drove in three runs for the Warriors. He singled in the second inning and tripled in the fifth inning.

Nolan Bolt went six innings and picked up the win. He scattered six hits, struck out seven, and walked only two.

Heath Ganoy took the loss for Andrew Jackson.

Westminster Catawba 8, Gaston Christian (N.C.) 7: Westminster Catawba toppled Gaston Christian 8-7 in a Metro Athletic Conference game at Gastonia, N.C.

Andrew Dillion picked up the win for the Indians, with Jake Early earning the save.

Carson Rowland led Westminster Catawba with a pair of hits and two RBIs. Early added a triple and drove in a pair of runs. Cole Bagley got one hit and stole four bases.

Westminster Catawba is now 10-1 overall and 3-0 in region play.
