High school roundup: Fort Mill, Nation Ford advance to boys Upper State lacrosse championships
The Fort Mill boys took a seven-goal lead by intermission and went on to earn a 13-3 lacrosse win over Clover in the second round of the playoffs. The Yellow Jackets had led 7-0 at halftime.
Fort Mill will host Nation Ford on Tuesday for the Upper State championship.
Nation Ford 12, Greenville 11 (2OT): Nick Catan’s goal in the second overtime period gave Nation Ford a come-from-behind victory over Greenville in the second round of the playoffs.
Greenville led 5-3 at halftime and 9-6 after three quarters. Nation Ford rallied in the fourth quarter and tied it at 11-11 on Vinny Catan’s goal.
After a scoreless first overtime, Nation Ford scored to move on to the Upper State championship next Tuesday at Fort Mill.
Girls’ Lacrosse
J. L. Mann 14, Fort Mill 8: J.L. Mann took an 8-3 lead at halftime and defeated Fort Mill in the second round of the playoffs at J.L. Mann.
Nation Ford 19, Mauldin 7: Nation Ford established a 12-5 lead at halftime and toppled Mauldin in the second round of the playoffs.
The victory sends Nation Ford to the Upper State championship game next week.
Softball
Rock Hill 5, Ridgeview 4: Rock Hill broke a 2-2 tie after four innings and edged Ridge View in a non-region game at Rock Hill.
The Bearcats advanced to the Upper State championship game next week.

Lancaster 14, Chester 7: Lancaster defeated Chester in a non-region game at Chester.
Ty Good took the loss for Chester. Anthony McCullough led Chester at the plate with three hits and an RBI. Good also had three hits. Desmond Kelly, Trent Johnson, and Jordan Price each had a pair of hits for Chester. Kelly drove in two runs, while Johnson and Price had one RBI each.
Softball
Lewisville 16, Great Falls 2: Lewisville pounded out 14 hits and routed Great Falls in a Region 3-A game at Great Falls.
Tori Ernandez picked up the win for Lewisville to improve to 3-1. Riley Coyle took the loss for Great Falls.

Indian Land splits a pair of games: Indian Land split two Region 4-2A games earlier in the week. They routed North Central 16-0, and lost to Buford 10-0.
Danyelle McCorkle tossed a no-hitter and got the win against North Central. Rachel Sadak led Indian Land offensively with four hits. Chloe Williams, Gabbie Doyle, Katie Beachum, Adrianna Wilson, Savannah Bean, and McCorkle each added a pair of hits.
McCorkle took the loss against Buford. Williams, Doyle, and Daniella Wilson each had one hit for Indian Land in the loss.
Indian Land is now 4-17 overall and 4-7 in the region.
Girls’ Soccer
Indian Land wins two: Top-ranked Indian Land claimed a pair of wins earlier in the week.
They raced to a 4-0 lead at halftime and defeated Andrew Jackson 8-0 in a Region 4-2A game at Andrew Jackson.
Katherine Kilroy led Indian Land with three goals. Nia Pressley added two to the winning effort. Emily Gerdes and Pressley each had an assist for Indian Land.
Emma Thompson was in the net for Indian Land and recorded the shutout.
Indian Land (18-1) took a 1-0 lead at halftime and went on to defeat Lancaster 3-0 at Indian Land.
Kilroy, Pressley, and Kelsey Long scored the goals for Indian Land with Kilroy, Reagan Hunter, and Kate Komorous recording the assists.
Thompson was in the goal and picked up another shutout.
Broome 2, Chester 1: Broome scored twice in the second half and edged Chester in a Region 3-3A match at Chester.
Savannah Bianco scored Chester’s only goal with an assist from Deja Marshall.
Kilroy and Penegar selected for North-South Classic: Indian Land’s Katherine Kilroy and Bailey Penegar have been selected to represent the North team in the annual North-South Classic. The match will be played at District 3 Stadium in Rock Hill on June 18.
Boys’ Soccer
Broome 2, Chester 1: Broome defeated Chester on a penalty kick shootout in a Region 3-3A match at Broome.
John Erby scored Chester’s goal to tie the game at 1-1 in regulation.
Boys’ Tennis
Fort Mill 5, Rock Hill 2: Fort Mill won three singles and both doubles and toppled Rock Hill in a Region 3-4A match at Fort Mill.
Fort Mill is now 7-5 on the year.
