High school roundup: Nation Ford softball loses 9-inning playoff game

J.L. Mann 3, Nation Ford 2
J.L. Mann scored in the bottom of the ninth to edge Nation Ford 3-2 in the second round of the District II Class 4A softball playoffs in Greenville on Friday night.
Nation Ford took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third on a two-run triple by Darby Trull.
The score stayed that way until the bottom of the seventh when J.L. Mann got two hits and took advantage of a pair of Nation Ford errors to score twice to tie it at 2-2.
Nation Ford loaded the bases in the top of ninth with one out, but could not score.
The loss sends Nation Ford to the loser’s bracket. The Falcons will travel to play the winner of the Westside-Blythewood game on Monday in an elimination contest.
Daniel 5, Chester 2
Daniel held off a late rally and defeated Chester 5-2 in the first round of the District I Class 3A softball playoffs Friday night at Daniel.
The loss sends Chester against the loser of the Camden-Travelers Rest contest in an elimination game on Monday.

Northwestern defeated Laurens 10-4 in the first round of the District I Class 4A playoffs at Northwestern.
Northwestern will host Dorman on Saturday at 1 p.m. in a winner’s bracket contest.
SOFTBALL
Clover 4, Woodmont 3
Clover scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning and edged Woodmont 4-3 in the first round of the District IV Class 4A playoffs at Clover.
Kayla Ogle pitched a complete game and picked up the win. She struck out 12 batters.
Micah Sherwood, Vanessa VanSlambrook, and Taylor Morneault each had two hits to lead Clover offensively.
Clover improved to 18-9 on the year and will play at Byrnes on Saturday at 2 p.m in the second round.

Williston-Elko toppled Great Falls 15-0 in the first round of the District IV Class A playoffs at Williston.
Great Falls plays at Southside Christian Saturday at 1 p.m. in an elimination game.

Dalton Vickers fired a 36 to pick up medalist honors and lead Fort Mill to a pair of wins in a tri-match at Waterford Golf Course in Rock Hill.
Northwestern finished the regular season with a record of 8-8.

Georgia Modla scored the winning goal as Rock Hill edged Nation Ford 2-1 in a Region 3-4A match at Rock Hill.
Rock Hill finished with a 6-6 record in region play and qualified for the playoffs for the first time in seven years.
