High school roundup: Fort Mill softball battles Boiling Springs for district title

The Fort Mill softball team defeated Boiling Springs 3-1 in the District I Class 4A playoffs Thursday at Boiling Springs.

The win by Fort Mill forced a second game for the district championship late Thursday.

Baseball

Clover 5, J.L. Mann 4: Clover scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning and held off a late rally to edge J.L. Mann in the District IV Class 4A baseball playoffs at J.L. Mann.

The victory by Clover forced a second game for the district title late Thursday.

Boys’ Soccer

Dreher 3, Lancaster 1: Dreher toppled Lancaster 3-1 in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs.

The loss eliminated Lancaster from the playoffs.

Boys’ Tennis

Mauldin 6, Nation Ford 0: Mauldin won every match in defeating Nation Ford in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs at Mauldin.

The loss eliminated Nation Ford from the playoffs.

Late Wednesday

Baseball

Lewisville 3, Fox Creek 0: The Lewisville Lions made the most of six hits and defeated Fox Creek 3-1 to win the District I Class A championship Wednesday night in Richburg.

The Lions took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Quentin Sanders opened the inning with a single. He moved to second on a single by Denver Moseley, and scored on a Fox Creek throwing error.

The Lions added two more runs in the seventh. Moseley started the rally with a single. He moved up on a single by pinch-hitter Chase Yoder. Drew Colvin’s single plated Moseley, and Yoder scored on a single by Drew Stewart.

Colvin pitched a complete game to get the win and improve to 5-2 on the year. He scattered five hits and struck out six.

Lewisville advances to the Upper State playoffs on Saturday, where the Lions will host McBee at 7 p.m.

Northwestern 4, Laurens 3: Northwestern defeated Laurens to win the District I Class 4A championship Wednesday night at Northwestern.

Laurens won the first game 5-4 to force the second contest to determine the district champion.

Northwestern advances to the Upper State playoffs and will travel to Easley on Saturday for a 7 p.m. game.

Softball

Lewisville 10, Whitmire 9: The Lewisville Lions pounded out 12 hits and defeated Whitmire 10-9 to win the District III Class A softball championship Wednesday night in Richburg.

Tori Ernandez picked up the win for Lewisville. Abby Thomas got the final two outs in the seventh to record a save.

The victory sends Lewisville to the Upper State playoffs. The Lions will host the winner of the Fox Creek-Southside Christian game on Saturday in the opening round.
