Clover High School announced on Tuesday that Karen Schmolze will take over the Blue Eagles’ volleyball program.

A graduate and former volleyball player at Clemson University, Schmolze will return to the varsity volleyball scene after previously leading the Northwestern High School program from 1993 to 2000. Most recently she was in charge of the Oakridge Middle School volleyball program.

Schmolze plans to build a family oriented program that is based on hard work.

“In our first year we really want to make sure that the girls are loving what they are doing and working hard,” she said in a press release from the school. “We want to show that through hard work they are going to see success.”

Al Yasneski will join Clover as the head JV coach.

In addition to on-court success, Schmolze and Yasneski are looking to make sure their players are well rounded.

“Developing an all-around student-athlete is our goal,” Schmolze said. “We want to see success on the court while really developing these girls to become champions on and off the court. That is our mission.”

The Schmolze name is a familiar one to Clover High School. Her husband, Tommy, was previously principal of CHS and she currently has two sons enrolled, Cameron (12th grade) and Collin (9th grade).
