2 local football players sign with colleges
Two local football talents announced college decisions via Twitter this week.
Former South Pointe wide receiver (and basketball) standout Anthony Johnson committed to the University of Buffalo. Johnson played junior college football the last two seasons, first at Butler Community College in Kansas, then last fall at Iowa Western. Johnson – known as “Litman” in Rock Hill – caught 19 passes for an average of 22.8 yards per grab for the 10-2 Reivers. He also returned 21 kickoffs for an average of close to 23 yards. The 6-foot-3, 208-pound speedster took visits the last two weekends to Missouri State and Buffalo, opting for the Bulls this week.
Northwestern senior Miles Corpening announced his decision Wednesday, the Shrine Bowl safety signing with Tennessee Tech in a Twitter video. Corpening was a huge addition to the Trojans’ secondary after transferring down from Charlotte’s Vance High School. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound defensive back made 98 tackles (fourth on the team), intercepted three passes and also returned punts and kickoffs. Tennessee Tech plays in the Ohio Valley Conference in the Football Championship Subdivision.
