York Prep Academy’s first male college athlete, Khali Clegg
Khali Clegg isn’t bashful on the basketball court.
He’s a powerful, 5-foot-10 guard who oozes competitiveness. But he wasn’t as assertive Thursday during a brief college signing ceremony in which he became York Prep Academy’s first male athlete to sign a college athletic scholarship. Clegg signed a nearly full ride with Pfeiffer but had to be cajoled into a short speech by his teammates.
“I didn’t know what was gonna happen with this scholarship thing, but everything pulled through,” he said afterward. “I’m just thankful for everything I’ve got coming toward me and I’m just thankful for my teammates, the whole YPA family.”
I know there’s gonna be a lot more coming, but I’m just thankful to be the first scholar athlete to do this.

He had some last-minute drama with Spartanburg Methodist jumping into the fray late. He also had an offer from Lees-McRae, but Pfeiffer won out.
“I just liked the Christian attitude as soon as I got there,” Clegg said. “I felt right at home as soon as I got there and I can come home any time I want to.”
