Dupree Hart named freshman All-American
Rock Hill’s Dupree Hart capped a fine rookie season of college baseball with some more hardware.
The former Northwestern Trojan was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball on Wednesday. Hart led the College of Charleston Cougars with a .314 batting average and a .443 on-base percentage. He was named to the Colonial Athletic Association’s All-Rookie team and was named CAA rookie of the week three times.
Hart will play with the Charlottesville Tom Sox – out of the Valley Baseball League in Virginia – this summer.
Lewisville’s Evan Sisk was another local that finished his freshman season with the College of Charleston in strong fashion.
He got a shot to start a mid-week game against Clemson on May 10 and pitched solidly, allowing four hits and two earned runs in 3.2 innings, which led to weekend starts in CAA play the next three weeks. Sisk threw a combined 20 innings in those three outings, allowing five earned runs and striking out 17 batters, with six walks and only one extra base hit.
The rookie left-hander entered May with a 10.22 ERA, but wrangled it down to 5.40 with the trio of quality starts that month.
Fort Mill’s Clay Helvey and Nation Ford’s Clay Hunt saw limited action in their freshman seasons with the Cougars, while senior Nathan Helvey finished his college career with a pretty strong season, producing a 4-6 record and 3.77 ERA in 11 starts for an extremely young team.
