Hawgs of the Week: Lais and Simpson

4A, 5A schools

Alex Lais, South Pointe- senior 6-foot-3, 250-pounder graded 92 percent with three big blocks and a pancake during the Stallions’ win last Saturday against Rock Hill. Lais has been an integral part of South Pointe’s offensive line, which has helped the team average over five yards per carry through three games. Lais has a 3.4 grade point average, loves to fish and also is an avid church basketball competitor.

1A, 2A, 3A schools

Qua Simpson, Lewisville- junior is playing high school football for the first time and doing well. He was an integral part of the Lions’ 453-yard rushing haul last Thursday against Buford, playing guard and grading 85 percent with what coach Will Mitchell deemed seven highlight blocks. Simpson - the 6-foot, 233-pound nephew of former Lewisville and Clemson standout Mike Barber - added three knockdown blocks and a pancake.
