Hawgs of the Week: Fort Mill’s John and Chester’s Simpson

4A, 5A schools

Jared John, Fort Mill- senior offensive tackle had a big game for Fort Mill during the Yellow Jackets’ 49-39 defeat against York. John graded out at 89 percent, helping the Yellow Jackets run for 240 yards in the game. He was the lead blocker on most of QB Ryan DeLuca’s runs; DeLuca finished with a season-high 139 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

John is an avid Florida State fan and was moved to offensive tackle from tight end to help the team, and he has good grades.

1A, 2A, 3A schools

Xi Simpson, Chester- senior right guard is The Herald’s first two-time Hawg of the Week in 2016. Simpson graded out at 86 percent and recorded six knockdown blocks in the Cyclones’ 54-19 road blowout over Lower Richland. Simpson was the lead blocker on two of Chester’s rushing touchdowns, and also helped the team run for 351 yards.

Simpson is a 3.0-plus student with college football interest from the FCS level, including offers from Kennesaw State and Presbyterian.
