South Pointe is one of two unanimous top-ranked teams in South Carolina high school football, according to new statewide polls released Aug. 22. The Stallions opened the season with a 39-7 win over rival Northwestern, cementing the opinion of South Carolina high school football media that they were the top team in the state’s 4A classification.

Abbeville was the other unanimous No. 1, the Panthers topping 2A for a second consecutive week.

Lewisville received four first place votes in 1A after handling 2A Andrew Jackson last week. The Lions could pick up more votes with a win this week on the road at 2A’s No. 7-ranked Blacksburg.

Despite its loss to Westwood, Chester remained in the top-10 in 3A football, at No. 9. York received votes in the 4A poll; the Cougars open their 2017 campaign this week at home against Rock Hill.
