Touchdowns galore over the weekend for local college football players
Mason Rudolph, Oklahoma State - the former Northwestern Trojan’s plan for his Oklahoma State teammates before Saturday’s game against Pitt: “We wanted to come out and blow the top off this thing.” Rudolph threw for 423 yards - in the first half alone - en route to 497 yards and five touchdowns before making way in the third quarter with the game decided. The Cowboys won 59-21 and Rudolph is now second in the latest Heisman odds from Bovada, behind only Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield. Rudolph is 3-1 to win college football’s most celebrated trophy.
“Mason is a workaholic,” Cowboys coach Mike Gundy said. “He prides himself on being the Peyton Manning, the Tom Brady of college football. He prides himself on it and he backs it up.”
Jaleel Scott, New Mexico State - Scott continued his touchdown streak, snagging six passes for 55 yards and a score during the Aggies’ loss to Troy. His third quarter TD pulled New Mexico State within four of Troy, but the Aggies couldn’t complete the comeback. Scott has four TD grabs in three games.

Rylan Wells, Jacksonville - former Fort Mill QB earned Pioneer League player of the week honors after a big game during the Dolphins’ 56-31 win over Walsh (Ohio). Wells completed 14-of-18 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns while leading the Dolphins to scores on eight of his 10 drives on the field. The two non-scoring possessions ended the first half and fourth quarter.
Anthony Johnson, Buffalo - former South Pointe Stallion caught two passes for 60 yards during Buffalo’s 33-10 win over Colgate. Johnson’s first catch was a 13-yard touchdown in the second quarter, and his second catch, a 47-yarder, set up another Bulls’ touchdown. Johnson has 16 catches and two scores in three games as a redshirt junior.

Jay Hood, Wingate - former Lancaster Bruin hauled in four passes for 57 yards, including a seven-yard TD early in the second quarter, during the Bulldogs’ 31-27 win over Carson-Newman. Hood has a team-high nine catches and two touchdowns through the first three games.
Rogan Wells, Valdosta State - Wells started at QB for Valdosta and rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown on 19 runs. The former Fort Mill standout completed 9-of-16 passes for 55 yards and an interception as the Blazers fell to North Alabama 30-24.

Reubyn Walker, Benedict - Northwestern’s Walker had a team-high eight tackles, with 2.5 for a loss during the Tigers’ 30-21 win over Lane College (Tenn.).
Mike Hill, Iowa Western Community College - Lewisville’s Hill snagged eight passes for a team-high 80 yards during Iowa Western’s 21-19 loss to rival Butler Community College. Hill leads the Reivers in receiving with 20 catches through four games as a true freshman.
Greg Ruff, Newberry - former South Pointe QB continued his push for playing time at Newberry with a solid performance during the Wolves’ blowout of Virginia-Lynchburg. Ruff threw a first quarter TD pass, one of two on the day, and completed 5-of-7 throws for 80 yards. The redshirt freshman also ran the ball six times for 37 yards.
Chandler Kryst, Coastal Carolina - former Fort Mill Yellow Jacket also continues to creep his way up the depth chart. Kryst, a redshirt sophomore cornerback, notched four tackles and forced and recovered a fumble during the Chanticleers’ 30-23 loss to UAB. Kryst’s recovery set the Chanticleers’ offense up at the UAB 16-yard line, but they missed a subsequent field goal.
Other locals’ performances
Malik Williams, Appalachian State - Chester’s Williams snagged four passes for a team-high 68 yards during the Mountaineers’ 20-13 win over Texas State. Williams also ran the ball once for no gain. The true freshman has caught at least two passes in all three college games.
Beau Nunn, Appalachian State - York grad started at right tackle against Texas State, making it three starts in as many 2017 games for the senior.
Antonio Dawkins, Bluefield College (W.Va.) - Fort Mill’s Dawkins notched three tackles, made a tackle-for-loss and broke up a pass during Bluefield’s loss to Southeastern College (Fla.).
Jamah Mitchell, Campbell - redshirt freshman defensive tackle from Northwestern started and made five tackles (four assists) and record 1.5 sacks during the Camels’ 28-16 loss to Presbyterian. The 325-pounder has started all three games this season.
Eric Westbrook, Campbell - South Pointe’s Westbrook made a tackle during the Camels’ loss to Presbyterian.
Shuler Littleton, Campbell - Littleton continued his string of starts at right tackle for Campbell, helping the Camels to 448 total yards of offense durign their loss to Presbyterian.
Russell Hubbs, The Citadel - Northwestern grad made two tackles and a sack during the Bulldogs’ 31-25 win over East Tennessee State.
Wally Wilmore, The Citadel - another Northwestern grad, Wilmore recorded an assisted tackle against ETSU.
Logan Rudolph, Clemson - true freshman defensive end from Northwestern got on the field during the Tigers’ 47-21 blowout of Louisville and recorded a tackle.
Brandon Plyler, Concord (W.Va.) - Fort Mill product caught three passes for 29 yards during Concord’s 7-0 win over Virginia-Wise. Chris Norman, another Fort Mill grad, started on Concord’s offensive line.
Dillon Howie, Concord - Howie, a true freshman from Indian Land, notched his first college tackle, a tackle-for-loss during Concord’s shutout win over Virginia-Wise.
Chris Bouyer, East Tennessee State - Northwestern graduate made six tackles against run-heavy Citadel during ETSU’s 31-25 loss.
Corey Seargent, East Carolina - Seargent, the former Northwestern standout, recorded eight tackles in a busy and unsuccessful day for the ECU Pirates’ defense during their 64-17 loss to Virginia Tech.
Donovan Perryman, Furman - Rock Hill Bearcat made two tackles, including one for a loss, during the Paladins’ 49-17 loss to N.C. State.
Ryan DeLuca, Furman - former Fort Mill Yellow Jacket ran the ball twice for 10 yards during the Paladins’ blowout loss to N.C. State. DeLuca is a true freshman.
Andrew Komornik, Gardner-Webb - Nation Ford grad had a solid day punting during the Runnin’ Bulldogs’ loss to Western Carolina. Komornik only averaged 35 yards per boot, but he dropped three inside the opponent’s 20-yard line and had one 50-plus-yard kick.
Dijuan Ussery, Missouri Western - Nation Ford product caught a pass for five yards during the Griffons’ 66-44 loss to Central Missouri.
Nick McCloud, N.C. State - South Pointe’s McCloud made a tackle and broke up a pass during the Wolfpack’s win over Furman.
Manny McCord, Newberry - Indian Land grad caught one pass for nine yards during Newberry’s home win over Virginia-Lynchburg.
Markell Castle, Newberry - York’s Castle caught two passes for 33 yards and a touchdown during the Wolves’ 55-7 shellacking of Virginia-Lynchburg.
Shea Rodgers, Newberry - another former Indian Land Warrior had a good day kicking for Newberry, hitting all seven extra points and punting twice for a 40.5-yard average.
Darryl Foster, Newberry - Chester Cyclone saw his first action of the year for Newberry, recording a pair of tackles during their win.
Tony Gaston, Newberry - Lewisville’s Gaston notched a tackle during Newberry’s win.
Rondreas Truesdale, Newberry - Indian Land grad played on defense, recording a tackle against Virginia-Lynchburg.
Ali Shockley, North Greenville - true freshman made three tackles as the Crusaders upset Division II No. 16 Albany State on the road, 35-27.
Treyvon Edwards, South Carolina State - Rock Hill’s Edwards was recruited to S.C. State as a defensive back but got to carry the ball three times for 13 yards during the Bulldogs’ 41-0 blowout of Johnson C. Smith.
Quan Caldwell, South Carolina State - Chester grad made three catches for 16 yards during S.C. State’s victory over Johnson C. Smith.
Cole Martin, Stetson - former Nation Ford QB saw some relief action during the Hatters’ 38-7 loss to Dartmouth. Martin was sacked three times, but completed all three of his pass attempts for nine total yards.
C.D. Catoe, Union (Ky.) - Lancaster’s Catoe made a tackle during Union’s heavy loss to Lindsay Wilson College.
Bryan Binford, Union - South Pointe grad started at right guard for Union against Lindsay Wilson College.
Zeek Rodney, Wake Forest - South Pointe’s Rodney recorded one tackle during the Demon Deacons’ blowout of Utah State.
Nick Sturgill, Walsh (Ohio) - York’s Sturgill recorded eight tackles during the Cavaliers’ loss to Jacksonville.
Kendrick Hicks, Wingate - Rock Hill High linebacker made six tackles during the Bulldog’s win over Carson-Newman.
Dachon Witherspoon, Winston-Salem State - former Northwestern Trojan made a tackle as WSSU knocked off Virginia Union 21-20.
Lee Wright, Youngstown State - the former York Cougar made five tackles and recorded a QB hurry during the Penguins’ demolition of Central Connecticut State.
