Ready for football in York, Chester, Lancaster? Get tickets early, if you can at all

Concerns stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic have already changed a lot about the upcoming fall’s Friday night football fan experience in South Carolina.

And for some local school districts, it also affects when fans need to purchase their tickets — and if they can at all.

In an effort to curb overcrowding and follow the South Carolina High School League’s attendance guidelines, which were approved by the state’s Department of Commerce earlier this summer, several high schools in York, Chester and Lancaster counties will require purchasing tickets to athletic events ahead of time online. And some districts are limiting spectators to athlete family members.

Here’s what you need to know.

Rock Hill Schools ticket plan

Fans attending athletic events put on by schools in the Rock Hill School District will have to purchase tickets ahead of time, a district spokesman told The Herald via email. Tickets won’t be available for cash purchase at the ticket booth of any venue.

That said, fans arriving without a pre-purchased ticket can scan a QR code posted at the ticketing booths before entering an event to then purchase the tickets online.

“The cashless and paperless tickets option is in place to manage the number of tickets sold in real-time so we can ensure capacity limits are maintained at each venue,” spokesman Mychal Frost said in an email.

Stickers were placed on the bleachers of District Three Stadium in Rock Hill to mark where fans should sit to maintain their social distance.

Tickets will be posted ahead of time on the schools’ websites. Consult each one, provided below, to buy tickets and for more information.

Lancaster County School District ticket plan

Per a release last week on the district’s website, the Lancaster County School District will presell all tickets to athletic events, including football games.

For home games, athletes will be sold up to four tickets to cover their family getting into the game. Athletes will inform the appropriate coach or the school’s athletic director how many tickets they need.

For away games, athletes will be sold up to two tickets to cover their parents getting into volleyball games and up to four tickets for football games.

Indian Land, Lancaster and Andrew Jackson are the high schools affected by these rules.

Clover School District football ticketing plan

Clover High School’s first home football game of the season is already sold out, a district spokesman told The Herald. For its other two home football games, available football tickets will be announced and can be accessed via social media — follow @CHS_BlueEagles on Twitter — on the Thursday of the football game week.

If fans who want to watch any game don’t obtain a ticket, they can livestream the contest by going to NFHSNetwork.com and typing in “Clover High School” into the search bar. Cameras have been installed on the field, and the district is working to partner with WRHI Radio to simulcast the event.

Fort Mill School District ticketing plan

Due to the reduced capacity allowed at stadiums and sports facilities, the district will presell tickets for each sporting event, a district spokesperson told The Herald via email. Middle school tickets will be limited to family members only, and high school tickets can be purchased in advance by the public.

The district will not be able to honor district badge or gold cards for entry until further notice due to the limited capacities.

Varsity football tickets will be posted a week prior to game day online.

York School District 1 football plan

The public can purchase York Comprehensive High School football tickets online each Tuesday prior to the Friday night game. Like in other school districts, fans will need to show their electronic tickets at the gate.

Due to reduced stadium capacity, senior passes and York School District 1 employee passes won’t be recognized this year.

Mask-wearing and social distancing practices are required.

Tickets for the Lewisville-Great Falls football game scheduled for Oct. 9 will be made available online.
