The Herald’s Sept. 10 scoreboard: Keep up with all the Rock Hill-area football action

Keep up with all the high school football action in York County, Chester County and Lancaster County in Week 3 of the 2021 season here.

Below, you’ll see scores as games unfold across the Tri-County. And then once the Friday night lights turn off, check back to see several game recaps.

FRIDAY NIGHT SCORES FROM ROCK HILL, FORT MILL, CHESTER

Northwestern 42, Chester 26

Indian Land 51, Broome 33

Catawba Ridge 21, West Cabarrus 14

The Catawba Ridge Copperheads took a 14-7 lead at halftime and went on to defeat West Cabarrus 21-14 in a non-region road game Friday night.

The Copperheads added a score in the third quarter for a 21-7 advantage, before West Cabarrus capped the scoring with a touchdown in the final period.

The Copperheads improved to 3-1 on the year.

Piedmont 34, Fort Mill 28

Piedmont took a 20-14 lead at halftime and edged the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets 34-28 in a non-region game at Fort Mill Friday night.

Piedmont added to their lead in the third period and it was 26-14. The Jackets rallied for another score to make it 26-21 heading to the final period. Piedmont scored again for a 34-21 lead. Fort Mill answered later in the period to account for the final score.

Fort Mill dropped to 0-3 with the loss.

South Pointe 51, Shelby 37

The South Pointe Stallions built a 37-3 lead at halftime and held off a Shelby rally in the final quarter to claim a 51-37 victory in a non-region game at Shelby Friday night.

Shelby got back in the game in the third period with a pair of scores, and the Stallions’ lead was trimmed to 37-16. South Pointe added a score late in the period to take a 44-16 advantage heading to the final stanza.

Shelby rallied for three scores and the deficit was sliced to 44-37. The Stallions closed the scoring with a touchdown in the final minutes.

The Stallions improved to 2-0 on the year.

York 33, Union County 26

The York Cougars came from behind in the last quarter and edged the Union County Yellow Jackets 33-26 in a non-region game at York.

The Cougars trailed 26-20 when the final period began, but a pair of rushing touchdowns in the final 12 minutes turned the tide.

Javarus Guthrie’s three-yard run and the extra point gave York a 27-26 lead. Frank Thompson’s 14-yard scamper made it 33-26, but the PAT sailed wide.

The Cougars stopped a Yellow Jacket drive inside the 10-yard line in the final two minutes to preserve the win.

The Cougars opened the scoring on a 70-yard run by quarterback Aiden Davis and with the PAT it was 7-0.

The Yellow Jackets countered with a pair of scores and took a 12-7 lead after one period. Evan Threadgill’s 5-yard run accounted for the first touchdown, while JJ Thomas’ 20-yard interception return got the second one.

Davis added a 6-yard run midway through the second period, and York led 13-12. It stayed that way until halftime.

The Cougars padded their lead to 20-12 when Davis passed to Jevon Long on a 15-yard play. Threadgill answered with a 2-yard run and the Cougars lead was trimmed to 20-18.

The Jackets took a 26-20 lead late in the third period with a touchdown and the two-point conversion. Bryson Hunter passed to Branson Cook on a 25-yard play for the score, and then ran the conversion.

York improved to 1-1 on the year with the come-from-behind win.

Andrew Jackson 34, Battery Creek 20

The Andrew Jackson Volunteers took a 21-7 lead after three periods and held on to earn a 34-20 victory over the Battery Creek Dolphins in Beaufort Friday night.

Andrew Jackson added a fourth period score for a 27-7 advantage, but the Dolphins cut it to 27-13. The Vols scored again for a 34-13 cushion, before Battery Creek capped the scoring late in the fourth quarter.

The Vols improved to 2-1 with the win.

Ridge Spring-Monetta 58, Lewisville 50

The Ridge Spring-Monetta Trojans edged the Lewisville Lions 58-50 in a non-region game in Richburg Friday night.

Lewisville led 18-8 after one period and 34-32 at the half. The lead changed hands three times in the third quarter, and the Trojans were in front 46-42 when it was in the books.

The Lions scored for a 50-46 advantage early in the fourth quarter, but the Trojans rallied for two scores to take the victory.

Lewisville fell to 3-1 on the year with the loss.

Great Falls 36, Hemingway 32

The Great Falls Red Devils came from behind in the fourth quarter and edged the Hemingway Tigers 36-32 in a non-region game at Hemingway Friday night.

The Red Devils led 20-18 at halftime, but the Tigers rallied for a pair of scores for a 32-20 cushion. Great Falls answered midway through the final stanza to cut it to 32-28, and then got the winning score in the final two minutes.

Great Falls improved to 4-0 with the victory.

Charlotte Christian 31, Legion Collegiate 0

Charlotte Christian scored in every quarter and toppled Legion Collegiate 31-0 in a non-region game in Charlotte.

Charlotte Christian led 7-0 after one period and 10-0 at intermission.

They tacked on two more touchdowns in the third period before closing the scoring with a touchdown in the final 12 minutes.

Legion Collegiate fell to 0-2 with the loss.
